Texas Car Meet Bans Mustangs, Chargers And Camaros From Its Events
It’s become something of a meme for people turning up in new Ford Mustangs and other modern pony and muscle cars to be reckless at otherwise subdued car meets - it doesn’t take much searching on social for silly crashes and OTT revving. For one organiser though, it’s become too much - outright banning a trio of cars from its event.
More specifically, the Texas-based Coffee and Cars has elected to “temporarily” ban all Mustangs, Chargers and Camaros from its events - highlights “burnouts and revving” at a meet last weekend. Coffee and Cars hasn’t stated if the ban applies to just modern examples of each car, or classic versions too, or when it hopes to lift the ban.
The wording of its statement suggests exuberant driving has become more than a one-off problem at its events, saying: “We keep asking for cooperation to reduce this behaviour and we have signs posted. If this behaviour continues we will be forced to do invitational only events”.
It signs off with “Please stop encouraging this behaviour, spread the word please and thank you”, no doubt targeting those filming the antics for social media.
It may come across as harsh to introduce a blanket ban for each model, surely stopping a number of well-behaved owners from attending in the process, but in a world where exciting cars are becoming ever-more frowned upon you can understand the want to protect a safe haven for enthusiasts.
If anything, this should serve as a reminder to keep it sensible and respectable to those around us at car meets, or we risk losing these types of events altogether. Hopefully, this Coffee and Cars ban can serve as a wake-up call to those keen on making a scene.
