Thanks To A Hacker, We Now Know There’s A Tesla Model S P100D On The Way
We’d just gotten used to the idea of the 90D with its 2.8 second 0-60mph time in Ludicrous Mode, but that’s not where it’ll end for the already bonkers fast top-of-the-line Model S. The next upgrade will come in the form of a 100kWh battery, adding more range and more poke to the electric saloon. The reason we know? It’s all thanks to a Tesla hacker called Jason Hughes.
He uncovered a ‘P100D’ badge graphic buried in a firmware update, confirming that a more powerful battery is indeed on the way to the Model S. Not the biggest surprise, since Elon Musk has previously stated that the car’s capacity will increase over time thanks to advances in battery technology.
Things took a curious turn, however, when Hughes claimed that Tesla was downgrading his own car’s firmware in a possible ‘retaliation’.
None other than Elon Musk responded to Hughes’ concerned Tweet, stating that it wasn’t something he’d requested, then appearing to praise the man’s skills by saying “good hacking is a gift.”
Strange Twitter exchanges aside, though, this all leaves us with one important question: will Tesla give the upgraded cars a new performance ‘mode’? And if it does, where do you go from ‘Ludicrous’? Bonkers? Absurd? Bats**t…? Let’s have your suggestions below…

Hackers vs elon musk.
Who will win
Musk haha
One Punch Man is the clear winner
Shocking news. This car will be revoltlutionary to the electric sports car industry. A big step-up from the others. Where do you go from ‘Ludicrous’? Not bonkers, but ‘BOhmkers’.
Dem electric puns
i would give the man a job in tesla’s cybersecurity department, he’s obviously better than whoever is there now.
“Breakneck mode”
Is it?
Soon guys like him will be called tuners…
Quite right
Future tuner
I hope for bat$h!!
Instead of Ludicrous mode why not have a button to engage HOLY F*CK mode?
Cause then they would have to censure it…
I can smell a contract on his way from Elon. Its so much more affordable to give him monthly salary then to get this kind of leakage :D
this creates attention and gives the idea of Tesla being a friendly brand against not dangerous hackers…
I was about to ask how on earth a non-supercar powertrain can handle the ridiculous 0-60 times…
Then I remembered all wheels had their own motor and there was no transmission.
More like each axle…
Honestly, this doesn’t come as a suprise. If you asked about upgrading your 85 KW to 90kW to the employes of Tesla they said you should wait to the 100kW came.
