9 Supercars That Accelerate Slower Than A Tesla Model S In 'Ludicrous' Mode

Despite being a big, BMW 5-series-sized saloon with all sorts of creature comforts, the Tesla Model S P85D is already something of a supercar killer. With 691bhp and all-wheel drive it’ll do 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds, but if you drop £8300 to upgrade to the new ‘Ludicrous’ mode and another £2500 to spec the 90kwh battery, that drops to a scarcely believable 2.8 seconds, with the output raised to 761bhp.

So, using official manufacturer figures, what cars can the P85D now beat to 60mph, which it would have only roughly matched previously, or been slower than?

What's faster?

The ‘Holy Trinity’ of hybrid hypercars - the Porsche 918, LaFerrari and McLaren P1 - are all quicker, with the 918 having the fastest official time of 2.5 seconds. The Porsche 911 Turbo S is technically slower with an official 0-60mph time of 2.9 seconds, but it’s been clocked hitting 60mph from rest in 2.5 seconds by Car and Driver.

The Bugatti Veyron Supersport is - unsurprisingly - quicker at 2.4 seconds, but other than that, the Nissan GT-R Nismo and a couple of oddities like the Caparo T1 and Ariel Atom V8, there really isn’t a whole lot else that’ll do the benchmark sprint any quicker.
