Growing up on a diet of World Rally Championship highlights and lengthy Gran Turismo 2 sessions, a life in cars was as good as inevitable for Matt.

ford/cosworth BDT rs200 engine
N47d20 with the twin scroll turbo set up found in the 123d. 200+ bhp and real world 50+ mpg and 400nm.
Pulls like a train when needed, economical when needed
Don’t be like all the ignorant idiots on here talking about stuff they have never even seen in person nor dis they had the opportunity to drive/service/test etc. Be nice and name something you think is good and was produced within past two decades
Im gonna cheat a bit but suzukis g13b with a lovely redline and peak power at 7000rpm,
K20As are my favorite 4 cylinder…
Taunus V4 is the best 4 cylinder. But that was almost 50 years ago..
The Ford Duratec/Mazda MZR engine (2003+ 2.0/2.3L variations). Good power and torque, EXTREMELY tunable (Duratecs can easily reach 280 bhp normally aspirated), and very reliable. There’s a reason why more kit cars and smaller car companies (including Caterham) use this engine than any other 4-cylinder…
it’s a fantastic engine for the money with tuning potential that’s hard to beat.
