Growing up on a diet of World Rally Championship highlights and lengthy Gran Turismo 2 sessions, a life in cars was as good as inevitable for Matt.

Sr16ve N1. 1.6l n/a made 197hp and 134tq. Fantastic little enfine and plenty reliable.
Actually nix that. My vote stands wholeheartedly on the Saab b234. Where else will you get a 2.3l 4cyl thatll take 600whp without even cracking the engine apart.
Nobody mentioning the 1.8 20vt engines from the VAG group? One of the few boosted engines that can handle a lot of abuse and power and still go strong for 300k+ kms. Loads of parts and knowledge and easy to tune.
EJ22
4G63, 4G63, 4G63
Are we done here, yet?
If there was a seperate category for diesel four-cylinders, I’d nominate the 1.9 TDI from VAG. It is a great engine - quite fast, easily tunable, very economic and extremely reliable. But it can’t compete with engines like the F20c, 4G63 or EJ25 :D
V7-10 EJ207, forged internals, 8000-8500 limit, can take punishment and that sound!
2.0 16V ABF from Volkswagen
Not sure if the engine name, but the engine found in the MC22 CBR 250RR was awesome. geared camshafts. 19,500 rpm made this a screaming little monster that was great fun. pottering along in traffic at 8krpm commuting !
