Top Gear's Reasonably Priced Car Sold For A Very Unreasonable Price
The eBay auction for Top Gear's final 'reasonably priced car' ended a few days ago at a price that nobody would pay had this been a 'normal' Vauxhall Astra...
If you look in the UK classifieds right now, you’ll find a low-mileage, 2013 Vauxhall Astra 1.6-litre petrol for around £7500. It will be boring and it will be ugly.
Nevertheless, Top Gear’s heavily-abused, non-airbagged Astra with a roll cage sold recently on eBay for £17,800 after 67 fanboy bidders battled it out.
The new owner can rest assured that his or her new purchase is one of the world’s most watched vehicles, having been driven on the show by big names like Aaron Paul, Hugh Jackman, Will Smith, Kiefer Sutherland and Ed Sheeran.
As for me, I’d have kept the money and spent it on something that wouldn’t bore me to death. Like 15 MX-5s or one E92 M3, for example…

when I buy a car, I like to know it’s been taken care of. having seen the abuse this car has taken, I wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole
You wouldn’t be able to drive it on the road anyway, it was probably bought to sit in a collection.
That blender sounds more tempting, then spending that amount of cash on that car..
Screw Astra I want Geoff!
Lol 15 MX-5s. I couldn’t agree more. Better be all NA models.
15 MX-5s sounds great :)
The money for it went to charity. In particular, BEN, the motor trades charity. I’d call that £17,800 well spent supporting the British motor industry.
I’m not so sure you can buy an E92 M3 for 17.800£. E46 M3 yeah for sure (better choice IMHO) but an E92? Srsly?
What about the diesel bmw race …ish car ?
I would love to buy the table they had on stage!
Think about it though, it was the very last reasonably priced car for this Top Gear era, the final car for the trio’s final Top Gear season. In a decade or so or maybe even in a few years, this car could become worth a lot as a collector’s car, depending on how this new series does.
