The Toyota GT86 Has A New Face And Freshened Up Suspension
It’s facelift time for the Toyota GT86, and unlike a lot of modern mid-life refreshes, the rear-wheel drive sports car’s changes are actually relatively significant. We have a whole new front bumper featuring a much larger intake, a new set of LED headlights and a new alloy wheel design.
The chassis has been lightly fettled too, with retuned shock absorbers and revised spring rates. The interior gets new leather/Alcantara upholstery and soft-touch suede door trims, or new cloth upholstery with contrasting silver stitching depending on what you spec. Not that we know what any of that looks like, as interior images haven’t been revealed just yet.
The 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated flat-four remains the same, which means 197bhp and 151lb ft at your disposal. The US-spec version however - which will be called the Toyota 86 - does get a cheeky 5bhp and 5lb ft boost.
The car will make its public debut at the New York Auto Show, and is expected to go on sale later this year.
What do you think of the GT86’s new look?
Comments
The whole thing is still too busy and sharp-lined for it’s overall shape. I bet it the GT-86 would look mint with some smoother lines like that old 90s car called the Super? …Supreme? Oh, SUPRA. That’s what it was.
Not supposed to be a Supra now is it? XD And you best not forget the roots of the Supra, A.k.a a big box with a big engine.
The old one looks soooo much better.
Am I the only one that really doesn’t quite like the facelift?
No you aren’t. The old one was my favorite affordable new car. Guess with the 2017 model the 370Z will get the title back again
The new is is disgusting
I don’t like the new front bumper, too massive and not as clean as the old one I think…
Thank God, I’m not the only one. If I’d buy a facelifted GT86 I would have to buy a Rocket Bunny, Aimgain or whatsoever kit to make it look beautiful again
In my opinion it looks like this
Very nice!
Front don’t look so good :p
The facelift looks not bad at all ;)
Glad to see that the US-spec model keeps the true name ‘86’ as a Toyota now!
and not ‘Toyota FRS’ like some people thought it would be… … (face palm)
I mean the name of the car is ‘Toyota 86’ in Japan and ‘GT86’ in Europe and other parts of the world!
So, in the US-spec case, the car keeps the same name as the original japanese one ‘86’ simple as that! Nice ;)
