The Toyota GT86 Has A New Face And Freshened Up Suspension
It’s facelift time for the Toyota GT86, and unlike a lot of modern mid-life refreshes, the rear-wheel drive sports car’s changes are actually relatively significant. We have a whole new front bumper featuring a much larger intake, a new set of LED headlights and a new alloy wheel design.
The chassis has been lightly fettled too, with retuned shock absorbers and revised spring rates. The interior gets new leather/Alcantara upholstery and soft-touch suede door trims, or new cloth upholstery with contrasting silver stitching depending on what you spec. Not that we know what any of that looks like, as interior images haven’t been revealed just yet.
The 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated flat-four remains the same, which means 197bhp and 151lb ft at your disposal. The US-spec version however - which will be called the Toyota 86 - does get a cheeky 5bhp and 5lb ft boost.
The car will make its public debut at the New York Auto Show, and is expected to go on sale later this year.
What do you think of the GT86’s new look?

I really want to get an FR-S and do it up in a Senketsu-themed paint job, but now? THIS ONE HAS TEETH! Also, that’s interesting that the US spec one will have 5 more Hp, AND that they are in fact re-re-badging it as the 86, and not doing the funky “Toyota FR-S” thing that was originally reported.
This is great for anyone who wanted to get one, because now the original is going to be much cheaper.
Still prius tire?
The thing is im australian wont have all this new changing thing until next eyar or later on
Fk me australia always on slow side of the track
I’m glad we can forget about the FR-S name. Makes searching for car parts a little bit simpler with less names. Taillights look so much better than the rice-looking ones before. Shorter gearing with this facelift will make these less sluggish to accelerate. But 5hp and 5 lbs/ft torque is easily achievable with an ECU remap or aftermarket air intake so I’m not really sure about this improvement - they should have made ways to save weight. It does mean that its got better horsepower per litre if that interests you.
It looks worse. In fact they have just riced the poor thing
The Subaru BRZ is one of my dream cars. Just wish they would sell a turbo version additionaly to the current one.
It looks like a barf bag mixed with a Prius. The Scion FRS was so much better!
Should have left out the two ridges on the bottom of the bumper and done something where the fog lights were
Would look better if those silly vents at the front sloped downwards like the prefacelift, or were simplified or removed altogether. Reminds in bad ways of other Lexus’ with similar faces.
