Toyota's GT86 CS-RS Is A 235bhp RWD Rally Weapon
We’ve know about the CS-R3 for quite a while; Toyota Motorsport has taken one of the best sports cars on the market and given it a thorough rally conversion.
Despite being designed to dominate tarmac and gravel stages in equal measure, this rallied-up GT86 retains its rear-wheel drive layout, however the 2.0-litre Boxer flat-four engine has been given a decent 38bhp bump in power, now making 235bhp.
In keeping with its road-going sibling’s entry level mantra, the GT86 CS-R3 is aimed at private teams in low-cost competitions. That doesn’t mean the development team has held back, however. The rally car gets a Drenth six-speed sequential gearbox and a racing clutch with lightweight flywheel.
To help cope with unforgiving surfaces, three-way adjustable Reiger shock absorbers have been fitted, as well as chunky 15-inch OZ wheels for gravel (these are swapped for 17-inch wheels for tarmac). Stopping power comes from Alcon calipers; four-piston at the front, two-piston at the rear.
Other upgrades include an HJS racing exhaust and manifold, FT3 safety fuel cell and a roof vent.
The Toyota Motorsport GT86 CS-R3 will be homologated to FIA R3 regulations, and is expected to be delivered to first customers in May. The cost of a rally-prepped 86? Well if you get in before 24 April 2015, there’s an introductory offer: £59,000.
