The Volkswagen Thing Is Slow, Old, Unsafe... and Amazing
I recently had the chance to drive a Volkswagen Thing, which is slow, unsafe, old, and poorly equipped. It’s also awesome — and it has some amazing quirks, as I’ve demonstrated in this video. I’ve also got more thoughts about the Thing in my column on Autotrader Oversteer. Enjoy!!

i’d buy one……then go offroading with it because why not.
I usually like Doug DeMuro s videos, but this really wasnt the best. This car is called VW Typ 182 (civil version) or Typ 181 (military version). “Thing” was just a nickname that the americans gave it and VW just went with it. And which sane person looks at a Ford F150 and thinks “yep, thats a normal size car”? Or the lack of safety features, when they decided to sell it to civilians, it was more like a practical Beach Buggy and not a daily driven serious car. And i have never seen a car with 2 windscreen wiper motors
Talking about unsafe car? I love you the VW Hormiga (spanish for ant). Its a Mexicana made VW truck.
