We Might Be About To See The Next Honda NSX
Honda is bringing a whole load of different things to the Japan Mobility Show, and as you might have expected from a name like that, a lot of the exhibits aren’t cars. There’ll be aircraft, motorcycles, charging technology, robots, and even an excavator. But there will be one thing with four wheels, and it’s piqued our interest - the Specialty Sport Concept.
Honda hasn’t said a great deal about it, nor is there a picture of it. There is something in the company’s ‘Dream Loop’ picture (a mood board of sorts) that looks sporty, but it seems to be an old design sketch for the Sports Vision Gran Turismo concept from a few years ago.
What we do know is that it’s pure electric (sorry to disappoint if you were expecting a V6 or a high-revving inline-four as found in Honda sports cars of old). Honda also promises that it’s able to deliver the “pure joy of driving” while being able to “transcend the constraints of time”. Crikey.
That’s the extent of what we know at this stage. Honda is known to be cooking up two sporty EVs, one of which could well be an electric NSX (badged Acura in North America), and the new concept could well serve as a very early preview. We may be waiting a while before further information is divulged, as the show doesn’t start until 25 October. At the event - formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show - Honda will be showing a couple of other four-wheeled vehicles.
One is the Sustaina-C Concept (above), which is a model made from recycled acrylic resin to demonstrate the concept of “resource circulation”. The other is the CI-MEV, a model of a two-seater autonomous vehicle aimed at those with mobility issues.
A potentially more exciting exhibit will be the HondaJet Elite II light business jet, or at least a chunk of it - the Honda stand will feature a full-size interior mock-up. Also on the flying front, there’s a one-fifth-scale mockup of the futuristic Honda eVTOL.
