10 Things You Can Buy In Caterham F1’s First Online Auction
As the Manor Marussia F1 Team continues its push towards making the 2015 grid, bidding on the first online auction of former rival Caterham F1’s assets has started.
The team entered administration last October, but returned to the sport for one last race at the Abu Dhabi season finale thanks to a crowd-funding project.
Despite desperate attempts to keep Caterham F1 alive, it was announced earlier this month that all of its assets will go up for auction. The first takes place on 11 March, and online bidding has already started. Here are a few great finds that are up for grabs, in ascending price order:
1. Privacy screens
Remember those privacy screens that teams use to hide their pit garages during tests and practice sessions? A set of four Caterham screens currently has a highest bid of £150.
2. Rear wing pieces
Want a piece of F1 car from 2014? These left-hand rear wing panels are up for £300 and £220 respectively.
3. Pirelli tyres
There are plenty of Pirelli tyres in the auction, which could be made into fantastic pieces of furniture. These sets of four show tyres - complete with show rims - currently have bids of £300.
4. Driver seat
Kamui Kobayashi’s seat from last year could be made into a great desk chair. It is currently up for auction with a bid of £300.
5. Damaged nose
This damaged nosecone from the 2014 season would make a great decorative piece or epic paperweight. The current bid at the time of writing is just £500.
6. Steering wheels
Three 2014 Caterham F1 steering wheels are up for auction, and all currently have top bids of £1500. Older steering wheels are on sale for lower prices.
7. Pit wall
Setting up a racing team? Or simply want an epic piece of F1 equipment as a decoration in your home (there’s surely a way of turning this thing into an awesome F1-themed bar)? This Caterham pit wall has 18 LCD screens, six chairs, computers and pit board sets. It is currently on for £3100.
8. 2012 F1 car
This 2012 Caterham F1 chassis was converted to a seven-post rig car and occasional show car. It’s far from complete, but things like wheels, tyres and bodywork are present. The current highest bid is £3200.
9. 2014 F1 cars
These cars from last year could be bargains if the price doesn’t rise too much. Kamui Kobayashi (lot 254) and Marcus Ericsson (lot 289) drove them throughout the 2014 season and both, at the time of writing, have bids of £18,000.
In both cases, they will not come with engines or gearboxes, but other parts will be supplied to turn them into show cars.
10. 2011 F1 car
The machine raced by Jarno Trulli in the 2011 Formula 1 season is currently the most expensive item on the list, but at a bargain price. It is currently in a 2014 livery, having been used as a show car. It does not come with an engine or gearbox. The bid price at the time of writing is £21,000.
