I don’t understand all the hate that Tesla and electric cars in general are getting. They are fantastic

Now, before you go raging to the comments let me address some of issues I’ve seen people have with electric cars.

1- They don’t make sound
Now I love a good sounding car as much as the next guy, but is it really a valid reason to hate on electric cars? No. Yes V8s, V10s, V12s and rotaries sound amazing but we don’t have the fuel to run them forever and the fact that we are getting car makers like Tesla and Rimac making electric cars fast and exciting is great.

2- Alternate Fuels
I’ve heard people say how hydrogen fuel is much better than electric however there is only one problem, we don’t have a developed and practical and cheap hydrogen car and there is a very good reason for that, you see hydrogen is an incredibly difficult fuel to store and is explosive and it does not have as much energy as petrol which means we would have to use a lot of it. And for now atleast we haven’t really developed a successful hydrogen car and if we do in the future, then for sure it’s a good alternative but for now when our fossil fuel resources are about to run out, electric is the most developed option

3- Generating electricity to run cars causes pollution
This one is perhaps the one that makes the most sense, but here’s thing while yes we should try to have electricity generated in a more environment friendly way and most likely will in the future. It’s still more efficient and better for the environment to use an electric car instead of one powered fossil fuels and there have been some studies to prove it, you honestly don’t think that companies would have spent millions or even billions of dollars in research and development for electric vehicles without actually test whether they are more efficient.

Anyways that’s just my opinion on electric cars, I think they are good and companies like Tesla are making them fast and exciting for us car people and all the hate they are getting is completely unreasonable.

I hate electric cars other than terrible city ecoboxes because of them taking the good old internal combustion engined cars teritory. I think that electric cars are fine in the city, but everywhere else you can allow for the pollution caused even by a 12V cummins turbo diesel, as it is more fun and there are less cars outside the cities.

  • they are all shouting everywhere about how terrible people are for removing their cats from the exhaust… And if you look at the countryside, every tractor that I’ve driven rolled coal when stepped on hard…
I was even enjoying slowing down with an old Ursus 360 tractor to the minimal speed in 5th gear and then floring it just to hear the engine threw the straight pipe exhaust and to see the coal roll… And yes, I’ve propably hurt myself with it as most of the smoke was going just about over my head as it didn’t have a cab, but I don’t care!

I actually really like the idea of electric cars. I’m not saying they ought to replace petrol cars outright, but at one point as things stand, you’ll about have to. The nice thing with EVs is that not only do you have less moving parts and much more torque/better acceleration, but they are quieter. I’m not sure about these guys saying that’s a bad thing, but to me that would be fantastic for a comfortable daily driven car. Imagine having something like that yourself and having a ride quieter than even current Rolls Royce and Bentley and such. The only reasonable concern is how the sports car market would transition into going electric, and as you mentioned in another comment, they need to sort things out first before getting to that part. The potential is definitely there, however.

Have you ever been in a Tesla? There is so much road noise

I strongly dislike Tesla. They have poor handling, poor braking, and a truly awful reliability and build record. If the panel gaps were any bigger, I’d be able to get in one without opening the door.

But speed isn’t everything. An old Camaro will make me happy thanks to the noise and tire shredding, but that thing is slow asf. Electric cars don’t have that same passion. If I want to go quick, I’ll just go on a plane. Plane has engine noise, Tesla has road noise

Agree with you on the example with the old Camaro. But the thing is that Tesla and other companies arent trying to make a characterful sports car, they are developing battery technology for electric cars and constantly improving so that in the future more and more people switch to electric. Once electric cars have developed to the point that they are affordable to the masses and also widely used then we will see the performance cars and sports car. Think about it this way, in 1910 when the car was relatively new, no one was trying to make a car that could be used for driving pleasure, they were being developed as a practical mode of transport, once that had happend we saw sports cars and other exciting cars being built. A similar sort of thing is happening with electric cars.

It is proven in studies that if the amount of Petrol cars increase by 10% by 2020 then 100 people would die, but if the amount of EV cars increased by 10% then more than 200 would die, so actually Tesla are worse for us humans then petrol.

And where did you get these satistics? Or did you just make them up? Because Ive never heard of something like this

I am very suspicious that this achnint guy is a Tesla fan boy, if you are which is what it seems like, then you should leave car throttle now because this is a community for petrolheads not EVheads, so F*ck off.

And you good sir are a mindless fanboy. I like EVs because they are currently the most efficient source of powering cars we have. No Im not a Tesla fanboy and I am not leaving this community because an idiot like you tells me to.

I’m sure in 100 years Teslas will be appreciated more. The first steam locomotives were hated, then widely accepted and seen as a symbol of wealth. It takes time.

Exactly. Because for now, for favouring EVs and Tesla Im being called a fanboy and being told to delete my account :/

That’s still not nearly as compelling as buying a gas vehicle.

I don’t like electric cars because to make the batterys for them isn’t exactly environmently friendly as to make them uses more fuel to ship them than a little 1.0L hatchback makes and I find cars like the prius and tesla to be extremely boring as how exactly are you going to work on them by yourself? And tesla cars I find mega ugly🤢

Im all for efficiency, but you should do some math. Where would you get lithium to make so many batteries? Where do you get the electricity from? Have you considered how much electricity it would drain from the network to have all cars electric? They still have many problems. I dont think they are ready yet.
