There's a real problem with sexism in the car community. It's no wonder why there are so few of us when it feels like the whole community collectively rejects and/or objectifies us.

CT has gotten a little better about moderating things like this, but I just recently made a post about what a badass Michèle Mouton was and the first (and only) two comments were these:

No one would have made comments like that if the post had been about another legendary driver like, say, Colin McRae or Ken Block. It gets worse when the comments aren’t moderated, like on Facebook (this particular commenter was mocking other commenters who were responding to a photo of two models posing badly at a gas pump with their fuel door still closed, and the other commenters came after her with all the butthurt their fedoras could contain):

Really? Look, I know people on the internet can be awful, but the car community seems to be particularly bad about being inclusive to anyone other than macho white dudes. We all love cars — why can’t this be something to start a friendship over, regardless of whether you’re male/female, gay/straight/bi, cis/trans, white/black/Asian/Hispanic/Middle Eastern/polka-dotted, Euro/JDM/muscle, drift/drag/rally/F1? Why do any of those things matter? What matters is the cars and our shared passion for them.

Grow up, people. Show some respect, turn some wrenches, and enjoy the ride and the camaraderie.

Grab a mini and join the community. We aren’t sexist over here. (There must be a 50:50 gender split)

I haven’t seen sexism on the car throttle app, although the pictures are from Facebook so that’s half of the problem.

This really annoys me the most about not only cars, but just in life situations that women get “stereotyped” as some object that “should be in the kitchen making sandwiches”, it’s really disgusting.

I’m fine with women that are into cars, but I’m NOT fine with wanna be “car girls”
who think they are so special just because they know something about cars but are really “into” them just to get mens attention.
Luckily i haven’t seen that in CT.

I’m a girl too. I know how it feels when a boy tries to discriminate you because “women cannot drive” or pretends he’s better than you in science/maths/engineering only because of gender. Guys, you need to get over the fact that women can be interested in cars too

Even here. I mean Whats the point with all of these feminists talk about discrimination. Where. I cant see it. Or maybe womens get offended by everything these days. For me a women in the car shop/garage is as normal as man. But in the history it was always jobs for man and it is Just normal and people have to rethink that those are only jokes and stop being offended by everything. A distance for jokes would really be useful for somebody. People these days feta offended by everything all the time and its Just sad thing to watch. Most funny is fact when somebody gets offended by something in the internet. It is not Real life get over it. If i would have be offended everytime when somebody calls me gay or idiot with a lot worse words so Please Just stop this nonsense. Good example what teached me distance? Top gear. Sorry for my english and have a good day!

SJWs are so common nowadays that it’s bound that some CTzens are as well. I wouldn’t care if they only talk about cars, but please don’t make posts like this here. We have enough SJW to deal with everywhere else around the internet

I agree completely. I knew this girl who used to go to meets all the time & never get talked to because people assumed she was somebody’s wife or girlfriend and not a car owner. Which pissed me off. That said, mentioning how many times someone crashes isn’t sexist. Make a post about Pastor Maldonado & check the comments. Even Ken Block has sht put on him.
