One of the few complaints you could legitimately lay at the MX-5 feet (well, wheels) at launch, was it’s slightly dull interior. That the car’s cabin wasn’t really a patch on European rivals shouldn’t really be that surprising, as the MX-5, and the NA in particular, dates from a time when Japanese car manufacturers had yet to really get to grips with plush fixings and well styled interior fixtures. Luckily the aftermarket scene surrounding the MX-5 has always been on the massive side, and there are now a staggering number of interior parts, fixtures and features available for all four cars, the majority relatively simple to bolt or clip into place. Dash Kit, NA
One of the simplest and most cost effective means of livening up your NA’s interior is via one of our dash kits. Incredibly easy to fit thanks to their self-adhesive backing strip, the kit includes coatings for both air vent rings, the dashboard strip, both front door trims, and the centre faceplate, gear lever, ashtray and electric window switch surrounds, all of which can be placed over the parts already in situ. Wood/Chrome Steering Wheel, NA
Many people fail to grasp the difference a small, high quality steering wheel can have to their driving experience, and it’s by no means stretching the truth to suggest that opting for one of our sports wheels can transform the manner in which an MX-5 ‘feels,’ while also serving to brighten up the interior very nicely indeed. We stock a selection of aftermarket wheels for the NA and they continue to be some of our most popular products, but we’ve opted to include the 350mm wood/chrome wheel here as it manages to blend old and new very well indeed, making it perfect for fitment to the NA, the oldest examples of which are very nearly 30 years old. No, we’re not going to pretend that bolting in additional storage space will make your MX-5 faster, or that the parts themselves are as sexy as the coilovers and brakes we also stock, but there’s equally no doubting that the extra practicality they offer can prove invaluable, particularly if you use your MX-5 on a daily basis. Sometimes it’s the smallest and simplest changes that can make the biggest difference, and this aluminium pedal cover set is a brilliant example. Mazda might’ve advanced the design of the MX-5 with the latest generation, but its very nature means that it will never going to be a particularly practical car, hence why we stock a number of interior accessories designed to make the most of what little storage space there is.
