Why you should've heard about Severn Valley Motorsports by now #blogpost

First and foremost, they specialize in Nissan R35 GTR tuning and upgrades

Severn Valley Motorsports, founded in Ironbridge in you guessed it, the Severn River valley in the UK, have been modifying cars for over 30 years. But of course, it wasn’t always GTRs. They began with Datsun 240zs, before making their name in the late 80s and 90s in Ford tuning, creating everything from race built Sierra and Escort Cosworths, to a Cosworth powered Transit and a Ka with 500hp(!), picking up many awards in the process.

Now though they are specialists in GTR tuning and upgrades, with everything from ‘570R’ package through a ‘800R’ package to a full blown ‘1600R’ package, with naturally 1600bhp. They provide everything from servicing to bespoke engine blocks and carbon clutches.

“The Hulk”

The aptly named ‘Hulk’ is SVM’s own 218mph (a world record in the wet!), 1,250bhp demonstrator. As well as an extensive aero package from brands like WALD and Top Racing and 315 section Toyo R888 tyres, underneath it includes their own 4.2 litre forged blueprinted unit, GTX GT-3568FP Series Garrett turbos and bespoke intake systems.

The World’s Fastest GTR c.2013

On the 10th of August 2013, one of their cars with the 1400R package “Mad Medusa” hit 239mph over 1.077 miles, making it the world’s fastest GTR, a record I’m not sure still stands today. Other stats include a 2.28 second 0-60 time and a 22.42 second standing mile time.

Nissan Qashqai-R SVM

Not interested so far? now you will be. As the bumpers, wheels and SVM’s previous expertise would suggest, this is a humble compact crossover with a VR38DETT wedged in the front, as well as GTR running gear, awd, and interior gubbins. Similar then to Nissan’s own Juke-R which the car took inspiration from.
But wait, there’s more!

As if the standard engine wasn’t enough, the car develops 1,150hp, giving it a sub-10s quarter mile (9.9s, the same as a Veyron SS), a 2.7 second 0-60 time, a 7.5 second 0-124 time (a McLaren 650s does that in 8.4s), and finishes up at 222mph, in all putting it in the same ballpark as the ‘holy trinity’ of hypercars (that’s the P1, 918 and LaFerrari). So, yeah. It’s certainly fast.
The car is now for sale (or sold, I’m not really sure) for £275,000. Now, you can make of that what you will, because on the one hand that’s well over 10x the price of the standard Qashqai, but then you are getting a unique car that’s built to a very high standard and capable of taking down cars 4x the price.

Their next project- A GTR swapped Navara

It’s an awesome sleeper and probably the UK’s first ute (though maybe the term ‘ute’ is debatable here); what more could you want? This is a project SVM have only recently revealed, with the picture above being a mock-up. And like the Qashqai-R, it is likely it’ll share a multitude of other OEM GTR parts, and that they won’t be content with the standard engine- they’re talking about 800hp for starters. Unlike the Qashqai-R, it should be a much more straightforward swap than a tranverse -engined crossover, though for anyone willing to cough up approx £175,000 (not including the car!), they can do a 4wd or rwd version, or even a whole running gear transplant with the R35 similar to the Qashqai-R.
