Mazda 6 common problems
DPF Issues
Many diesel cars can get problems with the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Diesel cars fitted with a DPF do not work particularly well with doing short journeys as it means the car doesn’t have time to warm up and the DPF gets clogged up. To clear it out it is recommended to find a bit of open road and driving in fourth, not letting the revs drop below 2500rpm for about 5-10 miles.
Front Drop Link Wear
These are prone to wear and this is normally identified by a clicking sound when going over bumpy ground. This cannot be prevented or treated. The drop links will need to be replaced.
TPMS Fault
The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System sensors are known to corrode. Check the monitoring valves on each tyre for signs of rust. Also make sure the car doesn’t have metal dust caps fitted as this will help it to corrode quicker. If the sensors have corroded, they will need replacing with new ones.
Squeaking noise round corners
If you notice a squeaking noise around corners, it is from the bolts that hold the seat frame down. These bolts are known to come loose. The seats will need to be removed to tighten the bolts. It is recommended to use Loctite or a similar product to prevent them coming loose again.
Electric window faults
Some of the problems with electric windows can be attributed to a potential faulty battery that isn’t suppling the right power to the motors, however this isn’t the only reason. Some owners have complained that the windows can drop down even when the doors are locked. This is fixed by a simple reset which is shown in the owners manual. If this doesn’t solve the problem, it is probably best to have a specialist have a look at the wiring to the motors as well as the operation of all the window workings.
Comments
The driver’s side window on my 2003 Mazda 6 GY is a bit borked as well. When closing it, for some reason it just likes to go down again after it passes a certain position. I often need to retry closing it a couple of times until it finally goes past that position and shuts fully.
the tracks inside the door panel are most likely loose, another common problem.
My 2007 Mazda 6 2.0 dieselwas driving normaly, but then I noticed the “CRUISE MAIN” light on the dashboard.I was confused bcs I have never used Cruise Control before. Then I turned it off, but a few moments after the car started stuttering, I was in 2nd gear and I had to downshift to 1st and it was still stuttering. Then at a stoplight I was in neutral, not pressing the clutch, and the revs were going up and down from 600 to 800 rpm. Please help me if you can!
