The exterior.
With its powerful and elegant appearance, the XF is the calling card for every transport operator. The impressive front, the distinctive black grille and the attractive styling elements: unmistakably the XF.
When developing the XF, DAF continued to build on its much admired cab concept, which is renowed for its spaciousness and practical comfort.
-A completely redesigned front - together with new mud guards, fenders and side skirts - ensure a very modern appearance
-Maximum attention was paid to aerodynamics and optimising airflows
-The headlights with optional LED technology are a first in the truck industry. With the largest light output, maximum life and minimum energy consumption.
Exterior lights.
The headlight units come with H7 halogen lighting with integrated Day Time Running Lights (4 LEDs) as standard. LED headlight technology is optional for the headlights — a first in the truck industry. LED lights guarantee the greatest light output with a maximum service life and minimum energy consumption. Optional headlamp washers are also available, beautifully integrated in the light units.
Aerodynamics.
Optimal airflow
Roof spoilers and side collars can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 10 percent. They are carefully tailored to the larger vehicle width of 2.55 metres.
The same applies to the aerodynamic mudguards with integrated indicator lights, clearly visible for cyclists and pedestrians for extra safety.
Interior.
The interior of the cab is the kingdom of the driver. No one knows this better than DAF. So following a long tradition, with the launch of the XF we introduce a new level of driver comfort. With 12.6 cubic meters of volume, the DAF XF Super Space Cab driver has the biggest cab available to work and live in.
Drivers deserve the best
When creating a truck to roll on into the future, one must think ahead. So we started with an open mind for the drivers future needs. Providing more comfort, more safety. Changing the concept of a drivers workplace.
If everyone can work from his own living room today, shouldn’t a driver be also entitled to that possibility? This may sound odd. But it is what we did: changing a driver’s workspace into his living room.
Living
The XF offers an abundance of space. The work and living space of 12.6 m3 and standing height of 2.25 m in the Super Space Cab are unequalled. If your gear does not fit in a DAF cab, you are simply bringing too much. The XF Super Space Cab has more than 1.000 litres of stowing place divided in practical zones.
Sleeping like at home… or even better
At DAF we know: a fit driver is a safer driver. That is why the DAF bunk always has been among the best. And we made it even better. It now comes with 2.20 m. long and a 16 cm thick pocket spring mattress with almost 900 stainless steel springs and three comfort zones. In the middle it is 80 cm wide, behind the chairs 70 cm. This guarantees a perfect rest.
The driveline.
The XF is powered by PACCAR MX-13 and MX-11 engines, developed for maximum efficiency, high performance and low operating costs.
PACCAR MX-13 Euro 6 engine
Meeting the Euro 6 emission legislation was just one of the development drivers behind the PACCAR MX-13 engine. Of course, we wanted it to be extremely reliable and durable. It should also have a fuel economy at favourable Euro 5 ATe levels and have the highest drivability with loads of torque. The PACCAR MX-13 holds a mix of proven state of the art technology and smart technical innovations. It is available with 303 kW/410 hp, 340 kW/460 hp and 375 kW/510 hp and torques of 2,000, 2,300 and 2,500 Nm within a broad range from 1,000 and 1,425 rpm. All this power goes to our new gearboxes. The AS Tronic automated transmission has unique features, including EcoRoll (truck rolling downwards with an idling engine) and FastShift (no clutch disengagement between 11th and 12th gear) to further enhance fuel efficiency. The newest generation Intarder 3 has higher output at lower speeds.
Engine type Performance Torque
MX-13 303 303 kW/410 hp 2,000 Nm 2,000 Nm (1,000 – 1,425 rpm)
(1,425 – 1,750 rpm)
MX-13 340 340 kW/460 hp 2,300 Nm (1,000 – 1,425 rpm)
(1,425 – 1,750 rpm)
MX-13 375 375 kW/510 hp 2,500 Nm (1,000 – 1,425 rpm)
(1,425 – 1,750 rpm)
PACCAR MX-11 engine
In developing the 10.8 litre PACCAR MX engine, high performance, low weight and low fuel consumption were the main focus. In addition of course to reliability and service life, and optimum availability. The PACCAR MX-11 engine is available in the XF with the output of 320 kW/440 hp.
Engine type Performance Torque
MX-11 320 320 kW/435 hp 2,100 Nm
(1,450 – 1,700 rpm) (1,000 – 1,450 rpm)
Exhaust gas Aftertreatment System (EAS)
To meet the stringent Euro 6 emission requirements while ensuring the highest fuel efficiency, DAF has combined its advanced PACCAR Euro 6 engines with various exhaust gas after-treatment technologies: an SCR catalytic converter and a diesel particulate filter.
Gearboxes.
DAF CF Euro 6 ASTronic
The XF is supplied as standard with a manual direct drive gearbox with twelve speeds, and a transmission with sixteen gears is available for heavy applications. The manual gearboxes come with “Servoshift” shift assistance as standard to increase comfort due to a reduced shifting effort and a short shift travel. To reduce operating costs, carbon synchromesh rings are used to maximise the service life. To increase ease of use, movement of the clutch pedal has been reduced from 154 to 135 mm.
The AS-Tronic automated gearboxes feature a number of new DAF-specific functionalities. Newly developed software and new sensors mean that the clutch action is very gradual and even smoother, giving improved performance when driving off and maneuvering.
Thanks to EcoRoll, during slight descents the clutch is disengaged allowing a controlled ‘roll’ at engine idling speed. Fast Shift also contributes to the low fuel consumption.
Rear axles
The robust SR1344 rear axle has been fully optimised for weight and has been specifically developed for use with the Stabilink construction. A feature of the axle is its low noise level. The lower oil level (10 instead of 15 litres) means a fuel saving and lower costs for oil changes within international transportation.
The SR1344 axle has a load capacity of 13 tonnes and is fitted as standard on combination weights of up to 44 tonnes and engine torques up to 2,300 Nm.
In order to completely customise the rear axle for specific applications, final reductions are available from 2.38:1. The SR1344 axle uses a new design of bevel pinion and crown wheel saving 50 kilograms in weight.
For high combination weights (more than 44 tonnes) and on vehicles with the 375 kW/510 hp engine, the updated SR1347 axle has a lower oil level, meaning as favorable a fuel consumption as possible and lower operational costs.
Chassis.
The chassis is a completely new development. It offers high payloads through low unladen weight. The high rigidity ensures excellent driving characteristics. Components are cleverly positioned with a view to the highest efficiency. A perfect base on which to build.
The chassis frame of the XF
The front end of the chassis allows for space for the extra wide engine cooling. The solid Front Underrun Protection beam also protects the radiator. The rigid and stiff front end of the chassis provides accurate steering characteristics.
The new Stabilink rear axle suspension not only reduces kerb weight but also adds to the improved steering characteristics. The axles, axle suspension and steering are designed completely new to reduce kerb weight and improve performance.
The chassis lay-out
For DAF, the creation of as much space as possible on the chassis was a key objective. Despite the presence of the EAS (Exhaust Aftertreatment System) unit with SCR catalytic converter and a soot filter for cleaning the exhaust gases, the aim was to realise fuel tanks with a total volume of 1,500 litres on a wheelbase of 3.80 metres and/or sufficient space to mount pump units, hydraulic tanks and toolboxes. To achieve this, the batteries are positioned at the rear of the chassis and the standard 90 litre AdBlue tank (option tank 140 litres) is now positioned under the cabin. For optimum ease of use, this can be filled directly from behind the rear of the cab.
