Intro: Thanks for the tips in the last one. I should pay more attnetion to how cars handle and not only their power. That being says, let’s go with this one. The 10th one is so close and it’s gonna be special.

Specs

We are starting hard with a rather unusual inline-4.
First of all it’s 2.1L engine and so it’s just barely over the 2.0L tax tier. Secondly, it’s an OHC, so only 2 valves per cylinder, which, again, is very unusual for a hot hatch.
Anyway, it has 140HP and 205Nm of torque. Quite low, but you can’t really complain.

Description

This is one of the forgotten Evolution models from Mercedes and also the cheapest AMG. (The AMG styling came sepparatelly from what i’ve read.)
But, although being underpowered, it’s still really cool.
It’s the most affordable real AMG and a jawdropper nonetheless.

Mods

Since there is quite a lot of work to be done to achieve my target 100HP/L, i’ll start with making the valves larger. It has only 8 of them, so i should make the best of them. After a port and polish of the said valves, machining the pistons to fit the new valves would be mandatory. After that, i would install a small supercharger kit, which would be the tiny but powerful Aisin AMR500. It’s a pocket rocket sized roots supecherger.
I would tune it to run at around 8PSI to produce almost 40HP.
Next up would be the intake and exhaust. And to push the most power of it, i would DIY it into a 4-2-1 exhaust.
Finally get that software tuned to tie it all together and hopefully have 220HP.

Budget

The car is extremelly cheap nowadays and that supercharger is barely under 160€. The whole thing shouldn’t cost more than 2000€ after selling the old parts.

Conclusion

This would really be a fun project and a head turner.
It’s a real Evolution and a real AMG at the same time and it could be someone’s first car.
I chose to supercharge it because that supercharger is very cheap and it fits in a tiny car like this without any problem.
This is also quite practical because of how tall it is. It has a lot of cargo space, since the W168 was so purpose built. And even has 4 doors with detachable rear seats.
