1995 Volvo 940 GL
May I introduce you to my replacement for the E34 Touring: Björn the Tank aka Volvo 940. I struggled with selling the E34 Touring because within a certain budget there was not much to come by. But rust and a broken suspension parted our ways which let me to the decision to sell it. But where to go from here? An upgrade? Well maybe. But this thing should be a very good companion on road trips I guess, which this car is built for. And also daily driving.
This car has tons of cargo space, a hitch and even a roof rag and roof box which will come in handy if I go skiing and snowboarding. I always liked the classic no f**given look of old Volvos…. practically is what we need and that is what you get. On top of that the power goes to the Right wheels (RWD=Right Wheel drive, so no FWD (Fools wheel drive)). The previous owner is my best buddy so I kind of know exactly what this car is all about.
New suspension
this car has received multiple new parts like new front calipers, disks, pads for the brakes, new front control arms, new suspension with hardened rear springs so that you can put a lot of stuff into the car or pull a heavy trailer, new tires….although they are called viking (I guess that was a joke by my buddy) I am not too impressed by all season tires but they might serve quite okay on this car.
obviously ride quality is superb, and I am not like Alex buying another rusty car after the other, I normally go out and buy a decent car which will get me where I want and fits my needs. And this is for travelling and daily driving….so
Tons of cargo space
and some mods include a fridge, stereo sound system with sub woofers massaging you from below the seats, a second battery preparation for the fridge and interior lights and and and…
The mighty power B200F
Well for engine… I got fast cars…. so that is not what I was looking for…. so this is the slowest least powerful but most reliable peace of engineering Volvo had in its 900-Series. The 4 Pot produces 82 Kilowatts which does not sound much and it is not much, but produces torque already at 4800 rpm and that from below 3000 rpm really already high in the torque range. So it got at least some punch although Top Speed measured was 180 km/h yesterday.
additional switches for fridge and aircondition
The fridge
yeah mighty car mods would be proud! The cooling device is from a 12V cooling box for a car and the rest is isolation plastics and some wood for the floor. Enough capacity for 4 bottles of beer and some potato salad and a few steaks. What more do you need right?
front row
Center console
oh yeah did I mention the stereo system is awesome =)
Comments
Show me pics of the fridge plz
yeah forgot to take pictures will show them soon enough. Will go buy some food now and when I come back I sent them to you here.
the fridge
I’ll be interested to see if you like this better than your last BMW
it is different I guess. I have already seen draw backs. High speed stability is not a thing in Volvos…. wind easily pushes the car. But comfortwise better. Handling worse, and engine wise the down low torque is quite cool but nothing happens up the revs.
Yesss
You must be balling
I also see its a Manual too, nice
yeah 4 speed with Overdrive so more or less 8 speed manual =)
Right-Wheel Drive? What is that
RWD, apparently, because FWD is the worst thing ever according to some people
That is really rather lovely
Looks good!!
Snow + volvo = drift fun. And all that with your daily 👌 hahaah good luck with your new car dude
Well I had an bmw before that snow Drifting nothing new… it also works on wet very well. Nobody needs 500hp to go sideways. 110hp are enough if you know what you are doing
It just needs a welded diff, a huge sub in the trunk and 5 wunderbaums on the mirror?.
Now thats how we do it where i live!
Has a subwoofer under passenger seat. Getting
Nice Scandinavian brick
