1999 Renault Twingo Helios

Since I was moving out of my hometown with my girlfriend and was about to do a lot more km’s per year, I had to get something cheap and reliable. Remember that old Merc I polished for my 90-year-old neighbor? Well, he gifted me this car!

I’ve owned it for 1,5 years now and already did 50k km’s with it. Maintenance is pretty normal other than this thing’s appetite for drive shafts, it’s on its 3 pair already. Seems to be a common problem with the c06 Twingo.

First mod I did was an audio install. Hey, if you aren’t fast better make it loud! Since it had a full spare wheel a spare wheel subwoofer would be a no-compensation option. Combined with 4 new speakers (it doesn’t have rear speakers stock) it made those 50k km’s a whole lot better.

On an evening driving home, I let my little brother drive because he just got his drivers licence. Everything was pretty normal until I saw an accident happening up front. My brother saw it to late and we hit them bang on. The other driver fled the scene what is really their los because by insurance rules we would be guilty.
After getting the car towed to a friend of mine his garage I started working on the car. The damage wasn’t that bad on first sight. But after removal of the front bumper I could see that the bumper beam was badly bent.
This resulted in a broken radiator, broken engine mount an a dislocated dynamo.
Parts were easy to come by and €150,- later the car was back on the road again and didn’t show any weird behavior.

This was the part I realized we couldn’t afford a new car and I had to do it with this one for a long while so I began making it more comfortable.
I adjusted the seat frame so I didn’t sit so high anymore. And I painted the top part of the dashboard black because the grey was very reflective when the sun shined on it.

Apart from the usual maintenance I’ve put a bumper lip on it which I found by the side of the road. It looks a lot meaner now. The car is stil being daily driven and will be passed down to my little brother when I get a new one just to keep it in the family.

Where can I find decent uprated parts? I wanted to switch to mk2 clio seats as they are a straight swap and are a lot more comfortable.
