Six Reasons Why You Should Consider a Non-GTR Skyline Rather Than the Traditional Skyline GT-R
1. It's cheaper.
The Skyline GT-R is one of the most hyped cars on the planet. But, that means that people will tend to ignore the non-GTR Skylines, making them significantly cheaper than the GT-R. To add, they’ve always been cheaper, because they’ve always been the lower model. To add, you know what you can do with all the money you’ll save from lower insurance and petrol costs? BUY MODS!
2. RWD = Drifts for days
Sure, with the R32 this isn’t as much of a problem, as you can very easily disable 4WD(As seen here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TWbQGXhS3M&ab_channel=SamiM%C3%A4k%C3%A4r%C3%A4inen]) But, with a 4WD R33 or R34, that’s much less simple.
“But why would anyone want RWD over 4WD?” - Mr. Imaginary Critic.
Well, drifting and burnouts, obviously.
3. They're generally lighter
While the GT-R’s are often bashed for being heavy, this problem is slightly less noticeable with the lighter non-GTR’s, For example, a R32 Skyline GTs-T Type M weighs only 1,280kg(~2821.9lbs), compared to the R32 Skyline GT-R, which weighs 1,430kg(~3152.6lbs), according to the Wikipedia page [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Skyline#R32] That’s a 150kg(~330.7lbs) difference, which you probably don’t want in your car. Also, a lighter car means better fuel economy(generally), better acceleration(with the same power and grip), better braking(with the same brakes and tyres) and even a more agile car(with the same tyres).
4. Some are N/A, and Naturally Aspirated means more direct response!
“So what could a possible benefit of not having something that creates power be, you stupid kid?” - Mr. Imaginary Critic.
Well, firstly, a N/A engine does not have any turbo lag, so, as long as you stay in the powerband, you have direct response and power whenever you may need it. Also, having an engine that starts off N/A, will allows you to choose between a supercharger or turbocharger, without requiring you to disassemble an existing forced induction system, if/when you want to go down the forced induction route.
5. It can still be 4WD!
Sure, RWD might not be your thing, but you can still have 4WD, with some(or all) of the benefits given by the other non-GTR’s. So, you can have a lighter, cheaper, faster responding, 4WD Skyline, rather than a GT-R.
6. It's just something different.
Us petrolheads have a strange desire to be different and unique, and to do something different, rather than follow a blueprint. Sure, an awesome non-GTR Skyline might not be a first, but a non-GTR Skyline still can have as much potential as their stronger, fatter brothers. So, why not give them a chance? If you’re in the market for a Skyline, make sure you consider more than just the GT-R.

This may be my first blog post.
But if it isn’t, it’s the first decent one.
I r8 8/8 m8. Would read again!
👍🏻👏🏼
True that. True, you have the Badger Status with a GT-R, but you can have a FD Skyline, that’s awesome too!
I saw a Nissan Skyline GTS-t R33 for 5000 Bucks on the internet in a good condition
uhhh
fd skyline? wat
Unpopular opinion.
My favourite skyline is the R33 GTS
Hahaha hilarious
My end goal in life is to purchase and own a 1999 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R VSpec. That’s far in the future though. Currently now I’m saving for a GTS-T or maybe even a ER34 GT-T. Just like you said they’re cheap and still just as good.
Doesn’t matter to me. I can still smoke all of them.
can you beat god foot’s uphill record?
i dun think so
I’ve never really wanted to own a Skyline(except in the FF1 and 2F2F release year), but there’s a guy in my town who owns one of these. AND IT’S IN MINT CONDITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@#$%^&@%&
First time I saw it I was instantly in love with it
2000 Turbo GT-EX RHR30, imagine it in two-tone beige and red-brown.
Or you can get a unique car
Non turbo RB engines are really underpowered and for the cost of turbo/supercharging it you can buy and swap in a turbo engine, with change left over. Also it wouldn’t be as strong and having higher compression pistons it will be much more sensetive to boost and tuning. My mate had an R33 gts-t with more power than my GT-R and I destroyed him every time simply because I could get all my power down much sooner. A 150kg weight and 50hp power advantage wasn’t enough to overcome having half as much grip. Rwd skylines are getting more expensive as supply dwindles due to drift accidents, stripping them for parts, “drift tax” and the american market begining to see them become available. If you are going to buy any skyline, do it as soon as possible. Since I purchased my GT-R 9 years ago prices have, on average, increased by 50% or more.
