The (possible) Premiere of Make It Better - Iron Duke Camaro #blogpost

So some time back, I made a blog post for Good Bad and Ugly, featuring the Supra A80 under “Bad”. This didn’t exactly sit well with people, especially when I demoted the 2JZ lol

BUT, the 2JZ got me thinking, “It’s a good engine. What cool stuff could I do with it?” Then it hit me. Well, not literally. It all became clear. A car build. One that no one would expect in a thousand years. One featuring the uber-popular tuner engine: The Barra engine. LOL just kidding, it’s the 2JZ we’re using.

Before we get started, I may make this a series. Leave a comment if you think I should do that. Anyway, let’s go!

Car of Choice: Iron Duke Camaro

I’ve been a Camaro fan my whole life, ever since I first saw Transformers. BUT, if there’s one Camaro I do not like, it’s the I4 3rd Gen Camaro. The absolute worst car Chevy ever made. You could literally outrun it in a Civic (I’m not joking, the Civic Si does 0-60 in 15 seconds, and the Iron Duke in 20. Pathetic!).

So what we shall do is swap out the I4. We’ll probably blow it up when we’re done with it. Unless it does it by itself.

Powertrain and Interior

Swap In The 2JZ-GTE

Obviously.

We’ll add a better intake, exhaust system, headers, up the block and piston strength via forging, the works. This thing needs to be fast.

Re-do the interior.

Remake the interior, given that this is one of the cheaper, older Chevys with substandard build quality, we’re gonna completely gut the interior. We’re adding a set of Sparco bucket seats, racing wheel, and whatnot. But it won’t stop there. We’re gonna add some parts from the 5th Gen SS for comfort. I mean, that’s totally logical, right?

Gotta connect the wheels!

We’ll add the T56 transmission from the 4th Gen Camaro.

“But Flux! You can’t connect a 2JZ to a transmission from a different brand.”

2JZ to T56 adapter.

Git rekt nubs.

Anyway, when it comes to me and transmissions, 5-speeds are too low. 6-speeds or higher are much better, for me at least. I wanna be able to shift fast, but have enough gears to shift through.

As for the suspension...

…we’ll add some performance coilovers. This thing will be a street car, not a drag car or a drift car.

And we can’t forget the brakes.

We’re adding the tried-and-true Brembos to this machine.

Visuals

Something like this....

We’re gonna make this thing look DOPE. We’re adding a 10-inch spoiler, WCC-style bodykit…nah. I’m playing with you.

We’re adding the Z28 bumpers and skirts to this.

I LOVE the Z28 bumpers from the 80s. They look amazing. Boxy, yet round. They’re awesome.

"What about the wheels?"

For the wheels, it should be sitting on 235/295 sport tires, with American Racing Torque Thrust IIs. If there’s a rim brand I like as much as RAYS, it’s American Racing.

I have strange tastes, alright?

For the paint, it will be tan.

-Just like what the Iron Duke is.

Kidding!

It’ll be steel blue. I like steel blue. Something like the one above to be specific, just with some more grey added to it.

Stats

We’re not done yet. Now we’re doing the desired performance stats of this vehicle. This thing isn’t gonna be some car-to-end-all cars, or a drag monster, or God’s machine. No way, what this is gonna be is a street cruiser, with good enough performance to take it to the track. The Camaro always was based for performance, so here’s how it’ll go:

Engine: 400-450 hp at 5400 rpm, 400 lb-ft of torque at 3800 rpm, 250 kg (engine weight reduction, yo!)

Acceleration: 0-60 MPH in 7 or fewer seconds, ¼ mile time in 12 seconds or better.

Top Speed: 160 MPH or higher.

Handling: .90 g, 13 meter turning radius, 150-foot stopping distance

Weight: 1,350 kg, 58/42 weight balance.

In a Nutshell....

The point of this vehicle is to be part-sleeper/part-best of both worlds. I want a pony car that also has a reliable Japanese engine, and I want a car that has such a low performance figure to be back up with the greats.

Thanks for reading!

I was really unhappy with the result of this post when I put it together. If you made it this far, then congrats. Please, tell me what you thought in the comments.

I’ll see y’all next time. This has been Flux of CarThrottle. Peace. :)

Were gonna make a terrible Camaro into an epic one just like in that episode of WD C:

The stock Getrag V160 transmission tgat the 2jz has is great. Can handle up to 800 hp or more.
This is a cool idea. One thing you missed was a roll bar, strut brace, sway bars, everything possible to remove that god-awful body roll

No. The Barra idea was better. Still blasphamy for Chevy guys, but better than the 2JZ swap.

Great post!
Love your idea of swapping engines from a Supra for Camaro. I agree with everything except the visuals…
A RICER gotta do what a RICER gotta do, man!
Anyway, great post!
Blog idea: Swap the COPO Camaro engine into a Cobalt SS. It would be epic!

Off topic: I like your current banner, can I download it?

Such a unique build. But for me, I replace the 2JZ for the BMW S60 (the one that powers the M3 E36) tho…
