Is the E110 Toyota Corolla (European/Oceania version) worth getting?

I heard that the pistons in that particular model are of low-quality. Is it a common problem?

They are very reliable. They can use a bit more oil but they will run with no issues. And they are pretty fun to drive. They can do lift off oversteer. Only thing i didnt like that much was the shifterfeel. There are cars with worse shifters but the e110 defenetly isnt as good as a civic shifter.

I think that I can live with that; especially since I’m planning on getting one as my first car.

You should go for a 1.6 litre from before the facelift (before 2000, with the bugeyes)
While tje 4afe engine uses a bit more gas (just a bit) it doesn’t use oil like the vvti (from the 110 after the facelift).
The car is an absolute charm to drive especialy aq a first car

I am thinking about going for the 1.6 liter; anything below that seems so slow that I could push it around faster.
