Both. A good low-end torque engine to daily and a high-revving engine to track and/or highways.

Well-sorted answer! No toque for off-roading?

No torque for highways? Need that acceleration from low revs.

Both in a perfect world but if I had to choose one, I’d say torque. Need that grunt.

Alright! What about cruising on highways?

I’s say start with a big torquey motor, and then make it breathe easier and extend your powerband for more fun factor. I got 150 HP from the factory, which is not enough. But, it packs 270 ft-lbs of torque. So, with some more open heads and cam, I can easily double the HP output and get a slight bump in torque.

Nice one! It wouldn’t be that much of a revvy engine though.

Revvy. More RPM is less shifting, and less shifting is less time without power. Plus, I just love the scream of higher RPM. It makes the car sound like it’s working at it’s limit, and really fighting for it like: “I’m going to win! I won’t let you beat me!”

But that’s just me. shrug

A screaming engine is a happy engine after all :) (And driver as well :P)

Can attest that a big torquey motor absolutely screams at even 4000rpm. It’s like they’re trying to rip the air apart. I get what you mean though.

Less shifting ? I could hit 100 mph in second gear (now 3rd) with a 400 inch V8, would shift at 5000 rpm. With a high reving engine you have to shift more to be in the narrow powerband.

More rpm doesnt mean less shifting, high torque can handle longer gears so it would be the same or even less shifting

Then why do you even bother about cars? ;)

Revving for me. It’s not that I dislike torque but I like the idea of doing more with less, so small N/A motors. I also consider horsepower a more meaningful figure for acceleration than torque, although it all plays part of course.

This is about the Honda phylosophy. It is nice to be able to rev high all the times, this adds some spice to the driving experience!
