The 6 Best Mustangs from Each Decade
The Ford Mustang has been with us for the past 6 decades. So which ones shined through the most? Here are the 6 best Mustangs from their decade.
1. 1969 Boss 429
With a 429 hemi engine, The Boss ‘9 was the baddest Stang of the 60s.
2. 1971 Mach 1 429 Super Cobra Jet
The last big block Mustang was a powerful one. 375 hp pushed this car ahead of everyone in the 70s.
3. 1986 SVO
The 2.3 turbo engine was half the size and had half the cylinders of the 5.0 but its lightweight meant it could beat any V8 fox.
4. 1996 Mystic Cobra
This special edition Stang featured a mystic paint job which was 7 different colors. Also this was the first Cobra with a 4.6 DOHC modular putting out 305 hp.
5. 2004 Terminator Cobra
By far the baddest Cobra ever put out by Ford, this supercharged 4.6 engine made nearly 400 hp and looked menacing.
6. 2016 Shelby GT 350R
The first Mustang with a flat plane crank, the first generation Mustang to come with only independent rear suspension. The GT 350 R is a track monster.
Comments
Well you kinda forgot the Mustang RTR
The RTR is a tubeframe silhouette special.
Not much Mustang about it.
Just like Block’s Hoonicorn.
The RTR is awesome but it isn’t a production car.
Hemi?
Hemispheric combustion chamber. It wasn’t technically called a hemi because Chrysler owned that name. But that is the type of engine.
3,4 & 5 are bloody ugly
I agree, although I have some Mustangs to be added
-1968 Mustang GT 390
-2000 Mustang SVT Cobra R
-2014 Shelby GT500
Oh and btw, the 2000 SVT Cobra R used the IRS first, so the 2015 GT isn’t the first one with IRS, if i’m not mistaken
Those are all great cars, I just liked the termi a little more than the Cobra R.
It did use IRS, but all 6 gens use IRS and that was the point I was making.
