PRV V6 knock sensor(s) replacement
My father’s car had been having a random rough idle/power delivery problem accompanied by a MIL. Since the car is pre OBAnything, the “fault codes” are usually either misleading, or they couldn’t be read in the first place because the ECU gets stuck at a certain point while trying to read the codes.
But after spending some time under the hood, there were 2 visible possible causes: both of the knock sensors. The insulating rubber had completely torn itself apart over time.
But getting to those sensors proved to be a problem of it own, thanks to their positioning - within the V of the block, under every possible component possible. (Shout out to other PRV fans for dealing with this kind crap)
Disassembly wasn’t all that bad apart from one nut holding the intake manifold, which just had to be located behind every feasible part from the immediate surroundings. Sounds strangely familiar?
The troublemaker
But that couldn’t have been all of it. I mean, working with a French car always has a twist to it, right? EXACTLY, apart from weighing like 10 kg. Removing the intake manifold required disconnecting the air piping(obviously), some vacuum lines(to be expected), fuel lines(optional), the throttle cable(yeah, yeah…), the entire Western section of the wiring loom(that was a lot fun) and water lines OKAY WTF IS THIS ANYWAY?!
oh and the bolts holding the sensors used to be 4mm hex bolts, now they are TX27
-same bolt.
Yes they were in there tight, thanks for asking.

P1eased0nteatme How do I tag you in the post again?
In the actual post itself?
I hope you didnt tighten the sensor bolts too much. They are pretty much just handtight on most cars.
They werent, but they are now. And I even checked the torq spec from the manual, but didnt bother with the moment rachet.
