Someone Just Spent £8 Million On Mr Bean's Twice-Crashed McLaren F1

It’s taken about five months, but someone has now laid down their hard-earned to secure the McLaren F1 owned by none other than Rowan Atkinson. It was put up for sale earlier in the year by Taylor & Crawley, and if you head over to the luxury car dealer’s website, you’ll see the car is indeed now sold.

The F1 belonging to the Mr Bean, Blackadder and Johnny English actor had over 40,000 miles on the clock when it was sold. Atkinson drove it frequently, and not without incident; the car was crashed twice during his ownership, with the second incident in 2011 leading to a staggering £910,000 insurance bill.

After both this crash and an earlier incident in 1999 involving a Rover Metro, the car was sent back to McLaren in Woking to be fastidiously repaired, something which no doubt eased the mind of the unknown buyer. We can only hope that whoever now has the keys uses it as much as Atkinson did, rather than hiding it away in a collection.
