Soon Your iPhone Won't Work While You're Driving
Apple is about to get involved with your life every time you get behind the wheel. Specifically, the company is trying to save it.
When the company releases iOS 11, users will find a new feature prompting them to activate a ‘do not disturb while driving’ mode, which will prevent any notifications appearing at all. The idea is to take away the temptation for we young ‘uns to look at our smartphones while we’re driving. To be fair, it really is a daft thing to do and it does cost lives.
If the phone owner ‘forgets’ to turn it on, the phone can guess when it’s in a moving vehicle anyway, thanks to its motion sensors, GPS and WiFi systems. Trying to ‘unlock’ the phone will be purposely difficult to do while driving, but easy if you’re an innocent passenger.
The system won’t stop you pre-connecting the phone via Bluetooth or USB, allowing you to access some of the device’s functions legally through the car.
The software can also ping a simple reply to anyone who messages the driver’s phone while they’re behind the wheel. Something along the lines of an automated “I’m driving right now and will get back to you when I get where I’m going” is thought to be the gist of it. A similar Android app to perform the same job already exists.
Developers are even working on software to sell to companies, who would then force their staff to use it. What’s your take on this? Should phone makers be taking steps to stop people using their phones while driving, and will people simply activate any override they can, no matter the danger?

My iphone barely works when im not driving either
As an Android user this made me chuckle a lot. My condolences. ;)
7 plus on 10.3.3 last about 5-6 heavy usage
As an iPhone user, I can confirm that this is true.
My Mac Book can be buggy at times
Idk if it’s just me taking care of my stuff but my iphone 4 has been working flawlessly for 7 years now.
This is the icon - yes I have iOS 11 beta 2 - and COMMUNITIES DON’T WORK ON IOS 11!!!!
yes it doesnt work..when i got it and went on CT and it didnt work, i tried to go back for like 3 days then gave up :(
That’s excellent! According to stereotypes, most imbeciles that text and drive have an iPhone!
Android users be like: “What took you guys soo long?”
Lmao
But does the Android brands have it as a standard app?
This is a stupendously good idea that’ll teach those teenage Instagramers to stop using their phone while driving!
I’m 17 myself and I feel that I could never use my phone, even as a passenger to any moving vehicle (well… apart from listening to tunes on a plane)
I hope this reduces crashes massively, thus car insurance becoming cheaper!
Nah the people who text and drive really should die. They deserve it for putting inocent lives at risk. 3000 people die every year due to texting and driving.
yeah, it’s not ok to use your phone bla bla bla….
But to not be able to use your phone in a moving vehicle… do you have a handicap or… why? :| That would be the only explanation (at least for when you’re not driving and are only a passenger…)
As much as I’m against Texting & driving this will only make it even more dangerous since it will be purposefully difficult to turn off while driving. People who already text while driving will find a way to turn it off while driving. Even if they now have to take two hands off the steering wheel they will do it risking other drivers safety. The only fix for text to have everything voice commanded so that you do not have to pick up the phone at all. Just speak a loud to Siri and have her send a text. Yes you shouldn’t text at all but people will still do it. Making it even more difficult is the wrong answer.
technology is getting so good its actuallly getting worse
when sometings a lot its a lot
Good, less motivation for people to oogle at their phones instead of looking at the road
I use my phone while driving for directions. I sure hope that’s one devices functions that are legal and they don’t overcomplicate it either
Apple’s idea of innovation is taking
android features and apps from the
google play store and implimenting it to
the iPhone a couple of years later.
But at least apple is doing something to save lives. Who cares if they’re copying android when this time they’re doing it for all the right reasons?
Your idea of comment seems to be
randomly hitting the enter key
for no apparent reason
during your typing.
Unemployment rate about to explode because of the number of employees fired cause they wont get all the urgent calls and messages of their boss/clients while driving (you better find a apartment next to your working place right now iPhone users…another reason to let’s get down this overpriced full marketing brand).
There is NO excuse for using your phone while driving, endangering the lives of others on the road. You are piloting a killing machine and it is imperative that you are in full control of it. Just having a conversation, even hands free, has been proven to lower reaction times.
TLDR: Put the f’cking phone down, even if its handsfree, because no-one wants to be killed by your (or your perceived bosses) impatience.
Use bluetooth! Both of my cars can read texts, call and use voice assistants.
