Toyota 222D

This is another interesting rally related car. The Toyota 222D. This car was designed as a Group B/ Group S hybrid. How that would work, I do not know. If you recognize the body style at all, you are right. This is an MR2. Except not really. The 222D really doesn’t have much MR2 left in it. Unlike the MR2, the 222D uses a tubular frame chassis, all wheel drive, and only weighs in at 750kg. Quite a drastic difference between it and the original, if you ask me.

Engine

The 222D was rumored to use the Toyota 503E Inline 4. It has been said to develop anywhere between 600 and 750 hp. The engine supposedly uses magnesium and titanium. These engines were also capable of ridiculous boost, the 503 in Toyota’s Eagle MK3 reporting 63.8psi during qualifying, 49.1psi during sprints, and 39.3psi during endurance races. The 222D may have instead used the 4T-GTE, however, though information on which one was used is not very clear.

Interior

Unlike the Quasar I recently talked about, this interior is anything but luxurious. Even with something so far from mundane, however, there is not much to talk about since this is more or less what you would normally see in a race car.

Conclusion

This is in my opinion one of the more interesting rally cars out there, and I feel that anyone who doesn’t know about it, should get the chance to do so. Hence why I posted this article.

Things I’ve read about this car:It was horribly twitchy and it also killed one of its test drivers. Can anyone clarify?
