Top 8 Petrolhead Cars In India (Cheap)

#blogpost Hi CTzens and today I’m back with a blog post after a long time. My first blogpost covered how the petrolhead culture in India is near non-existent, but today, I’ll be covering the handful of cars which are actually capable of being a racecar. Keep in mind, this doesn’t mean highly customisable. Let’s get straight to it.

1. Honda Civic 8th Generation (under 4 lakhs)

First up on our list is the Honda Civic, unfortunately only one version of the car has been sold in India, from 2006 to 2012; being a hit in India with both the petrolhead population and also normal buyers looking for a sedan. The Civic offers a 1.8L V-TEC engine which churns out 132bhp. This car is regularly fitted with aftermarket performance parts and body kits. Some subtle, while some riced. Nevertheless, the Civic is a brilliant first car and also a great tuner car. Available at the price of a Renault Kwid.

2. Honda Accord 8th Generation (under 5 lakhs)

Continuing the Honda legacy in this list, the Accord makes it’s way into the number 2 spot. This is not as popular as the Civic but is just as cheap and twice as powerful. A 3.5 V6 option gives the car a whopping 271bhp while a smaller 2.4L DOHC still gives an excellent 177bhp. The latter is obviously cheaper and more common, but with the New Accord making it’s way into India later this year, prices are sure to drop.

3. Nissan Teana (under 6 lakhs)

Heads up, this car was not at all successful in India, chiefly due to the Indian mindset and Nissan being unknown at the time here. A decent luxury sedan, the Teana sold from 2007 to 2014, having abysmal sales figures. Nevertheless, whoever bought it, gave it good reviews. Packing a 2.5L X-Tronic V6, the car makes a respectable 177bhp.

4. Skoda Superb (under 6 lakhs)

Being the most unique car on this list. Skoda released a 4x4 V6 variation of this car. Making it all sorts of mad (in India at least)
The 3.6 V6 makes 260bhp. When the variant was launched, Skoda wasn’t much popular, hence making maintenance and service an issue. But nowadays that’s not a problem. Well kept ones are easily available for the price of a Hyundai i20.

5. Mitsubishi Cedia (under 5 lakhs)

The closest India ever got to a EVOOOOOOOOO was a Cedia. Now the, the Cedia is nowhere near as fast or powerful compared to the other cars we’ve seen in this list. But it’s rally prowess is really worth a mention, and believe it or not the rally scene in India is decent. Therefore the Cedia is fairly popular in rallies. Making a decent 114bhp, the Cedia is definitely one for the rally fans

6. Abarth Punto (10 lakhs)

The only hot hatch available in India right now is the Abarth Punto. Though the car is the priciest in this list, by next year or so, prices will be halved. A 1.4L T-Jet engine puts out 145bhp and the car hits 0-100km/h in under 10 secs. Also available in the Avventura crossover version for those who like crossovers (everyone in India). Not bad at all

7. Chevrolet Cruze (under 7 lakhs)

The only American car on this list. The Cruze is fairly fast with 164bhp and also does 0-100km/h in under 9 secs. The fastest of all it’s competitors, the Cruze is your best bet for having a decently new (2013)mid luxury sedan that is real fast. Though this car is not mentioned a lot in the car scene here, it definitely is a serious contender for being a affordable racer.

8. Maruti Zen (under a lakh)

This is basically the VW Golf of India. One of the most modded cars here, it has received engine swaps, turbo treatments, body kits and whatnot. The best to mod Zens are ones made after 2003. This cute puppy screams mod me and is really easy to mod, with aftermarket parts available easily. Available for the price of a PS4 or a scooter.

So then, that concludes are blog post for today. Lemme know what you think and that’ll do for today.
PEACE!!

Dat Boi

The 8th gen civic was hardly a hit among tuners, that’s why they stick to the EKs and EGs. Now us in Sri Lanka got all the Civics, right from the very first hatch
