Where it all started. Eclipse The First Generation
The car that started it all. I’ve always been a fan of the eclipses , since I was a kid playing need for speed underground. I always picked the eclipse, and crushed the competition . I won ever race with that bad boy. But you see no one really talks about the 1st Gen cars they kinda fell off into obscurity.
So let's talk 1G
The eclipse was introduced in 1989, at this time mitsubishi was kissing the station bye and they were ready for somthing new. Boy did they get what they wanted, the eclipse had a trim for everyone
The base RS for people who don’t want to spend a fortune on gas and get 30MPG easily
The GS which had the same 92HP 4G37 motor as the RS. This trim had a better interior then the RS. So if you want to save gas and feel comfortable why you’re driving this is the trim to aim for
GS DOHC had a 4G63 NA 135 Horse power engine and same trim interior as the GS. Little interesting fact about this trim level is I’m Europe the trim could add AWD to the mix. This car is for the guy who want good gas milage but want to have a little fun on the side with out spending the extra money.
GS-T had a 4g63 turbo charged engine making a whopping 192 horses at the crank. The interior is the same from the GS. This is the car for the guy who want to spend that extra money to have a lot more fun and a lot more power.
Finally the legendary GSX trim. It came with a 4g63t making 192 horse power , came with AWD baby !!! This is for the enthusiasts the true car guy, if you got this model when it was new you would’ve been a total boss .
The eclipse when minor changes in its final years, they ditched the pop up head lights and brought flushed head lights to the show room. Honestly I preferred the pop up head lights but that’s just me. Anyways the 1G was a legend and I hope someday people will realize this maybe save some.
On that note,
Stay beautiful my friends
P.s excuse the horrible typing I’m half asleep

Good article! I saw this one today! The Eclipse GSX or Eagle Talon TSI or Plymouth Laser AWD Turbo trim are my 2nd favorite DSMs. Only after the Chrysler Conquest/Mitsubishi Starion. I honestly would take any gen…but its ALL about that 1st Gen. The pop ups, the hatchback, wether its NA, Turbo, FWD or AWD. I would love to and very well could daily one. Sooon…SOOOOOON.
