one of most common car's on the road, as well is one of the most uncommon cars in the modified automotive scene..the xv10 camry.

This is my first actual post on this, So bare with me lol..

I own a 1992 Toyota Camry… That i intentionally bought to modified. As long as i had my car and previous Camry ive always got remarks as in,”why a camry?”,” a grandma car isnt a racecar”,”waste of money”, “its fwd” blah blah blah…..usually coming from either a person that has never owned one, a usdm domestic guy, the Honda is the ony good fwd car guy or a mixture of either above.

Personally, i never understood the hate. Reliable engine options from factory( three to be exact; 5sfe, 3vzfe, 1mzfe), strong transmissions(A-series automatc trans, S-series and E-series manual trans), McPherson suspension at all four corners, four wheel disc Brakes on v6 models and a readily available option to covert the 4cyl models with rear disc brakes, study chassis and the option to use other Toyota’s components since its design was prime for majority of vehicles after its generation. Not to mention it has a light aftermarket support all on its own.

Its chassis has even been a decent touring racecar, even piloted by a Millen.

All of those pushed me to build mines. I know i could of got something more popular like a Civic, rwd like a 240sx or Rx7, more powerful like a eclipse etc. But i realized its hard to stand out with cars that has been done up over and over again for years, that had everything done to them in the modified spectrum, that i feel like that they are fan based; now for what title they are instead of what they could be. Carbon copied over and over. Thats something i didnt want. To be a stereotypical enthusiasts in my eyes.

I wanted to make a common car unique, a slow car fast, improve the car without losing its identity.

How do you do that to a 1992 Toyota Camry? For one, turbocharge it, you can go N/A like port and polish the cylinder head, larger valves, slightly stiffer valve springs, decked, bored, oversized pistons, blueprinted and balanced, delete balance shafts, port the intake manifold and throttle body, intake, header and exhaust but…… Turbo is more fun lol..

Get Coilover, slap on mkiv supra front brakes and Avalon’s in the rear, stainless steel brake likes, slotted/drilled rotors, new bushings, source a trd strut bar(or aftermarket one from ebay) and trd sway bar from the 4th gen camry or 1st gen solara.

To lighten things up, Move the battery to the trunk, in general get a lighter battery, take out any unneeded weight lighter+ wider wheels

Driver mod the interior, get corbueu or wedge racing seat bracketa and a pair of racing seats, Grant or any aftermarket steering wheel with hub, a short shifter with weight (or TRD) shift knob.

Exterior… Best mod, Depo Headlights lol. Everything else all personal choice like it should be.

And bam, you’ll have a decent unique camry. Or you could go overboard like myself and few others and source rare carbon fibet parts, Toyota scepter and narrow body parts (jdm yo!) and trd parts marvelously spend lots of money for the pursuit of xv10 happiness…

I used to have a ‘92 Camry also. Loved it. I had plans for it but I later died and don’t know what happened to it. I will someday soon own another gen 3 Toyota Camry. Hopefully the coupe.

its like other toyota cars like the 4 door corollas, people just dismiss them because they consider them to be boring cars or because they are just FWD. Im looking foward to get a v6 XV10, the only thing that worries me its the 4 auto gearbox. Automatic cars arent common arround here
