2010 Proton Saga 1.3 AT

Intro: My Temporary Daily Driver

Yes. Temporary. This very car isn’t owned by me. It is actually my dad’s restaurant’s company car. It was first driven by my cousin, and then it was handed down to my brother, and finally, it was handed down to me.

It had been in an accident, actually. My brother was attempting to cut-off a taxi (although he did indicate that he wanted to turn left) in order to make it to his college’s entrance. He failed, the taxi hit him from the rear quarter, and he spun out. The impact from the taxi is hard enough to actually puncture his left-rear tire. He was alright, thankfully, and the car suffered no more than a dented bodywork.

It spent three months getting it’s body straightened to perfection, and when it’s finished, dad hand it over to me, while my brother drives my mom’s Jeep. It’s been almost two weeks now, and so far, I have no problems.

About the car itself

It is powered by a 1.3 CamPro IAFM engine - developed by Proton and Lotus - producing 98hp and 113N.m. of torque. It is capable of sprinting 0-100km/h in 14.5 seconds and a top speed of 155km/h. Not impressive, but for daily use, it’s fine.

Some other aspects of the Saga FL

The overall drivetrain is a weird thing. If you’re driving it slowly, it’s wonderful. The gears change smoothly and the engine pulls along nicely. But, if you decided to hammer it, it will hesitate a bit. Maybe the manual version would be different, or the fact that it’s a 1.3 may be the cause. Other than that, it’s a nice package, this car. Although it isn’t the most fun I’ve ever had in a car, it still gets me from A to B comfortably and effortlessly.

Still, once I obtain my driver’s license at the end of the year (hopefully), I might get myself a nice classic that I can use daily.

Does your brother actually know you can’t cut lanes when taking a turn? Regardless if there is a car there or not

I’m pretty sure he does. He was just being careless as usual.

I’ve driven the FLX SV CVT. It’s a lot better than the FL 4AT when it comes to acceleration. While the 4AT will take time to kick down when you hammer it, the CVT would just accelerate effortlessly. However, the start-up clutch used in the CVT means that to start moving is a bit jerky. However, the 4AT is a lot more drivable IMO.
