Reliability really depends on the owners. Take care of it, change oil and filter regularly, let the engine get warm before you start “pushing” the car.
Manual transmission on 7-Series was mostly common on the smaller models, like 730i, 735i, 725tds (E38). But I know there was a number of 740i produced with manual transmission too. I guess kinda the same as 540i with 6 speed manual. Not very common.
