Best European sports/super cars of the 1970's.
The 1970’s. What do we remember most? Smokey and the Bandit? Hotel California? Athena Tennis Girl?
Sure,I like that movie. I like that song. I most definitely adorn that picture, but there’s one thing I absolutely love about the 1970’s,and that would be the cars. We always talk about the muscle cars and Japanese sports cars, but not the Europeans as much, which is a shame. So,sit back and get groovy to some of these European sports cars from the 1970’s.
Number five: Lamborghini Espada.
The Lamborghini Espada debuted in 1968,but,that was the Series I version. The Series II came out in 1970. Over a ten year period, only 1,217 were made, and they all sported a 3.9 liter V12 engine making 321 to 345 horsepower. This carbureted masterpiece was bolted to a 5-speed manual, and a Borg Warner automatic transmission was introduced in 1974. In fact, the gearing was odd with the automatic. It only had three ratios;Drive,1,and reverse. No park. Production ended in 1978.
Number four: Lancia Stratos High-Fidelity.
Production started in 1973 with a main focus on winning the WRC,but then turned out to be perfectly road legal. After winning WRC in 1974,it went on to win two more and the Monte Carlo Rally in 1977. What lies behind the driver, but in front of the rear axle sits a re-tuned 2.4 liter Ferrari Dino V6 making 190 horsepower. This was sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The last victory for the Stratos was in 1981,at the Tour de Corse Automobile, another World Rally Championship event, with a victory by longtime Stratos privateer Bernard Darniche. Production ended in 1978 and only 492 were made.
Number three: Aston-Martin V8 Series III.
In 1973,the Series III version of the V8 debuted. Aston-Martin went back Weber carburetors so the V8 could pass California emissions, but ultimately because they couldn’t make Bosch fuel injection systems work. The 5.3 liter V8 made 310 horsepower and ran a zero to sixty time of 6.1 seconds with an automatic transmission, and 5.7 seconds with the ZF 5-speed manual all-synchromesh transmission. In 1976,emissions caused the V8 to decrease power to only 288 horses. But,in 1977,power was gained back up to 305 with a new camshaft and exhaust system in the “Stage 1” package. Production ended in 1989 and only 4,021 were built.
Number two: Lamborghini Countach.
The production of the Lamboghini Countach in 1974 and sported a 3.9 liter naturally aspirated V12 that made 370 horsepower that was sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine was actually implanted backwards. The output shaft is at the front, and the gearbox is in front of the engine, the driveshaft running back through the engine’s sump to a differential at the rear. During some years of production, the Countach was the world’s fastest production car. Production ended in 1990 and only 2,049 were produced.
Number one: 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
Just kidding.
Number one: 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS.
This special edition went on production in 1973. These models, valued by collectors, are considered by many to be the greatest classic 911s of all-time. RS stands for Rennsport in German, meaning “racing sport”. The Carrera name was reintroduced from the 356 Carrera which had itself been named after Porsche’s victories in the Carrera Panamericana races in Mexico in the 1950s. The RS was built so that Porsche could enter racing formulae that demanded that a certain minimum number of production cars were made. Compared with a standard 911S, the Carrera 2.7 RS had a larger engine making 210 horsepower. Power was sent through a 5-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Production of this special edition ended in 1974.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post I made. If I got some information wrong, tell me in the comments and I’ll edit it. Thank you all for this great community. I’ll catch you guys later.

No Alpine A310? Seriously?
Yes,no Alpine. I’m sorry,I didn’t know I had to read people’s minds to make good posts. Jesus,I can’t put every car on here.
Where’s the 1975 BMW 2002 turbo?
I was thinking about this car at the time. Why does everyone expect a certain car to be on the list?
Where’s the M1?
I can’t make everyone’s request, alright? I chose these cars off the top of my head.
It was introduced in 79 and raced in the 80s,its not much of a 70s car
@The F12 of Maranello @Evan @Fantaribo I can’t make everyone’s request. Why is everybody expecting their favorite cars or cars they really like? I chose these off the top of my head.
