10 Things in Asphalt 8: Airborne You Can't Do in Real Life

Asphalt 8 has been one of the current popular mobile games worldwide, alongside several others like Need For Speed: No Limits and Real Racing 3. As I’m approaching my third anniversary of my gameplay I would like to share some things in the game which you won’t probably expect in real life.

1. Air Stunts

One of the key elements in Asphalt 8: Airborne are flat spins and barrel rolls, done by drifting when approaching a ramp and driving straight onto a curved ramp respectively. However I can point some physical flaws. You can’t really “complete” a barrel roll in real life because of Newton’s laws of motions. Therefore, if you’re unlucky, you’re most likely to be landing upside-down :v As for flat spinning, the trick in real life doesn’t really work either. I would like to attach a vid of one of Ken Block’s gymkhanas to give proof.

2. Nitro on Electric Vehicles???

Okay, this is something Gameloft did at a whole new level :v By cleverly imagining an electric vehicle’s “exhaust stacks” such that nitro can be emitted :v Well this does make sense if you can modify an EV’s electrical systems if you wanna install nitrous on it :v

3. Fast Drifts

In Asphalt 8 you can drift as long as you like, matching the world record (144.13 km/89.55 mi). But drifting at an insanely fast speed isn’t really much possible, unless you’re Masato Kawabata who set the highest drifting speed record at 304 km/h (190 mph) :v

4. Insane Speeds

Yes, this game was meant for us to break some limits. Even some normal ones like the Chevrolet Camaro SS 2016 and the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage had insane upgrade stats which made both cars pilotable up to 500+ km/h (300+ mph). The highest speed you could do in the game is nearly 650 km/h, using the Devel Sixteen. But bear in mind that tires won’t really last long at more than 400 km/h. Try deploying an SRT Tomahawk at the Autobahn at 600+ km/h and… bwoah, I don’t need to explain more about this :P

5. Misleading Vehicle Stats

I’ll give you a challenge. Get the Range Rover Evoque in the game. It’s acceleration to 100 km/h says 10 seconds isn’t it? Now run it (don’t fire the nitro at the start), and you’ll notice that the acceleration isn’t really 10 seconds. This flaw exists on every vehicle in this game. Besides, upon approach to top speed the rate of acceleration should be slower and slower, but it’s pretty constant in the game. This and the Mercedes-Benz GLC had strange good handling stats despite their SUV properties. Gameloft even assumes every car is a 4-wheel drive. To prove that I’m right, just observe the wheels when you drift any car. And yeah, don’t trust most of the cars’ top speeds. Many of the cars, especially in S Class have their speeds modified, and that makes some speed-famous cars like the Hennessey Venom GT and Koenigsegg One:1 lose to normal average ones. New auto-lovers who just started playing this, take caution.

6. Spawning Traffic

If you have perfect timing, you’ll sometimes see traffic being “spawned” at certain areas. Now where did that car come from? Magic???

7. Pro Kit Upgrades

This is an upgrade feature introduced in the Christmas Update in December 2014, and this allows you to take your already-upgraded car to the higher levels. One funny thing I would like to say about the cards is: do they work like talismans to make the car more powerful??? Gameloft thinks we’re shamans or fortune-tellers or what? :v

8. Havocs and Damage

So our car is basically a “tank” and this allows us to smash obstacles like trash bins and street lights. But hey, you’ve already seen the physical damage to cars when hitting such objects in real life. Also, when wrecking at high speeds, the car basically would be “flattened” instead of having most of its body intact :v

9. A Limit when Falling

When we fall, our speed should basically increase infinitely at a rate of 10 m/s/s. Yet the car stops accelerating when it’s 60 km/h extra from the top speed + nitro speed when it’s falling from a high spot.

10. Tag Racing

This is the latest thing Gameloft has ever imagined. Introduced in the Santa’s Gift Update in December 2015, this race mode allows you to race with three cars at a time. The funny thing I’m imagining is: Are you gonna deploy a transforming machine, then implement the data of any three cars in it so that it changes at regular time intervals???

What other unrealistic things in A8 can you think of? (Don’t ask me about NFS because CT made a vid about it before, but it’s now removed)

Can you do a list about 10 things in Asphalt Xtreme you can’t do IRL?

I haven’t played Xtreme yet, but the concepts should be almost the same as that

What about getting paid the equivalent of child’s minimum wage in comparison to the price of the cars?

Yeah. You get no money but are supposed to buy tons of cars. It’s too pay to play

Why can’t you complete a barrel roll exactly?

When a car moves, it has momentum. Once it flips in the air, the momentum keeps the car moving and spinning, so landing with four wheels after a barrel roll has a 50% chance

That’s why I play Real Racing 3. The only downside is that there is no manual mode :(

I don’t really like playing RR3. Its driving physics isn’t like Gran Turismo and it doesn’t have virtual racing lines for me to follow properly

Ever heard of maximum velocity, we won’t accelerate during a fall forever as long as we are not in free fall (which happens in space) due to air

In real life there is also speed limits to objects while falling. The moment where an object reaches this point is called “terminal velocity.” It is when gravity pulls a object down it meets air resistance and when the object reaches its terminal velocity the force of air resistance is equal to the force of gravity, therefore the object could no longer accelerate.
