5 Awesome American Rides You Can Buy For The Prices Of Overrated Japanese Cars (in the US)

I’ll be honest with you: I am disgusted by JDM fanboyism.
And, unfortunately for me and you, it is growing. It is growing fast.
Fanboys worship and overrate everything made in Nippon. (Japanese for Japan)
A very bad thing is that a lot of them are from United States of America, a country with a very, very interesting and diverse car culture. Basically, leaving the car culture from their countrey for someone else’s. Where’s the patriotism in you, for f.cks sake?! The wonderful American culture can dissappear unless people wake up and start thinking about all the juicy, American, metal fruit they have right in front of them.

Now, don’t hit me with the “It’s their money/life/car” comments. It’s not a valid argument and this is not what this post is about. I’m not saying everyone should buy American instead of Japanese cars, but that it would be nice and more natural for that to happen.

Long story short, the redneck inside that is drinking moonshine ATM decided to put down a list of awesome American cars that can be bought for the prices of their overrated Jap counterparts.

Before I start I would like to thank to the Hipster Redneck (who you know as Chadkake) for the helpful info (such as links, prices, facts etc.).
And to apologize to him for the hold up, but this week was full of sh.t for me.
One more thing:

  • I do not hate Japanese cars, or any car on this list. I just wanted to point out that some underrated cars could be better than some overrated ones. Purpose of this post is not triggering anyone, but to mention some good American cars.. If that, by any chance, happens, I do not want to be responsible for someone whoo cannot take my opinion. Thanks.

So, without any holdups, let’s get onto the list!

For the price of a NA Miata ( $2.5k and above)

You could buy a Ford Crown Victoria.

Ah, the precious Miata.
The answer to everything.
Super-extra-OMG- car.
Something that “Every real car guy” should drive.
The best sports car money could buy.
-Or is it?-
I know that my opinion will trigger wide national mases of people, but Miata is far from that.
Too small, low powered, often rusted out.
And 2 seaters aren’t the best imo.
I don’t know how and why is it considered a sports car.
It has an I4 engine pushing out 115 bhp.
The only positive side I see in a Miata is it being lightweight.
And maybe the manual gearbox.
But f.ck lightweightness if you’re 6’5” and cannot fit inside and ride comfortably.
And manual is a bit overrated.
And with all of the above, there’s no wonder that Miata fanboys keep saying that straight roads are boring.

But what do you do if you actually like having a powerful, 4-door, durable car?
You buy a Ford Crown Victoria.
No matter if you buy an older ( like Mr.Purple V12 has) or a newer one, I am sure you will not regret.
I mean, since it was good enough for the Police (NOT the music band), why can’t it be good enough for you to daily it?
I prefer the newer versions of the Vic.
The specific one in the picture costs $1700 and I must say - You get a good bang for your buck.
A mighty Ford’s 4.6L V8 engine and an automatic gearbox, an impressive towing capacity and a sh.tload of space inside the car.
Yes, it might not have the most ‘car guy’ transmission ( manual), but honestly, who gives a sh.t. When you have a land yacht as a daily, manual can just be a pain in the ass.
Drive an auto like a sir haha.
Another advantage is that these can easily be found at car auctions, sold as retired police troopers.
The color scheme might not be the best if you buy them this way, but you’ll get even more street cred if you drive a black and white Crown Vic.
Everyone’ll think you’re a cop.
Beat that, Miata.

For the price of a Nissan 240sx ( $5k - $10k)

You could buy a 4th Gen Mustang GT

Orange is the new black, and 240sx is becoming the new Miata.
Getting kinda overused, overrated.
Fresh meet to be fanboyed about.
And 90% of them were built similar ways.
Especially the stance and drift builds.
I mean, the S chassis isn’t quite bad, and the engine is decent, but honestly - Every second driftcar you see is a Nissan 240sx.
MCM had it. ThatDudeInBlue had it. A sh.tload of others did too.
And in the world of drifting, it’s sometimes good to stand out in the crowd.

And what’s a better way of doing that - then buying a good ol’… Well, good but not old, Mustang GT.
I was very pleased to see that ChrisFix got one for his driftcar project a few months ago.
To make things funnier, 80% of his fans thought that the car was either a Miata or a Nissan.
But Mr. Fix knows what’s up.
The 4.6L Murican V8 in combination with a 5 speed gearbox make everything just right.
And you even have the oporunity to choose - whether you want to buy a convertible or a coupe.
And drifting is the last thing on the list of what this piece of America can do.
Most of the time it’s drag racing these bad boys are built for - The most epic type of racing on the US ground.
You can’t blame anyone for drag racing a ‘Stang hehe.
It goes from null to sixty in 6 seconds.
Might not be JDM Af and stanced, but it literally eats up the racetrack.
Wish more people drifted it.

For the price of an S15 Silvia ( $15k - $20k)

You could buy a Cadillac STS-V

Yeah…
I’m not the most knowledgable person when it comes to Jap cars, but an S15 is basically a 240sx with an SR20.
Again, just like the 240, oftenly used for drifting.
Fanboyed by a lot, loved by a bunch.
That sounded kinda bad, but you get what I say.
There’s a thing that I absolutely hate and these cars are often equiped with.
Bodykits and “Big Wangs”.
Rocket Walk, Liberty Bunny, Pandem…
And everytime they build a car that way, it must be 100% clean, like it has never been driven
And that it is never driven, because showcar.
Or the others, the drift wannabes.
Who destroy their bumpers on the first slide at the track, then roll bumperless for years.
Simply not my thing.
You should always find the golden middle, not too clean and not too molested.
The little 2.0 I4 engine isn’t my favorite either…
It really sucks that Japanese laws are/were strict, so all of the cars were made much less powerful than they should’ve.
As a comparison, my friend drives a 1.8 I4 Ascona.
A real devil of a car, costed him $400.
But this ain’t about Asconas.
Still… Almost as powerful as a 15 grand S15.

Anyways, if you want something a bit bigger, better and more powerful car, Cadillac has got a solution for you - the STS-V.
Supercharged V8 pushing out 469 horsepower.
0-60 real quick. In 4.7 seconds.
For only 15k!
I mean…”only*…
But for me it would be better to spend it on a Cadillac than a Nissan. Maybe it’s just me, dunno.
Imagine one murdered out.
Totally black.
You’d be the boss around. Instantly makes you look like a f.cking gangster.
And besides the fact that it looks like that, it can also serve as a gangsters’ car.
You can fit a few bodies in the back.
And in case you are not in the mood for carrying bodies, you could always go racing.
Street racing, drag strip racing or just hooning down the highway.
Who gives a sh.t what kind of drive you are going for - You have a supercharged V8 under the bonnet.
Instant import killer.
Speaking of that… A V8 would be awesome in my car hehe.

For the price of a Mk4 Supra ($40k and above)

You could buy a First Gen Camaro

All hail the Mighty Suprah!
The only car that has 6969 bhp and can beat a Lamborghini.
Who needs a GF when you can have a Supra.
The bEst CaR eVa.

#Goals #Nissan #Toyota #Supra #ForPaul …

No.
These are some of the cringiest stuff I’ve ever said.
But it’s all for a reason: Supra is the Alfa and Omega of ze Fanboy world.
Next to the R34.
Powered by 2 Jay-Z’s. Not bad, tho I6 isn’t my favorite. Still, it is a decent engine.
Anyways, this car is hard to import, yet some have made it.
That’s one of the reasons why it’s overrated.
Forbidden fruit.
Plus Paul Walker drove it…
A magnet for 12 year olds and everyone feeling like ones.
Slower than you think it is.

On the other side we have the predecessor of all the Camaros, the first generation.
An animal waiting to be unleashed.
Powered by the one and only V8, transmitted by the 3 speed manual tranny.
Raw power.
No plastic, all metal.
And a lot of awesomeness.
Eating 1/4 mile drag strips for breakfast.
Has the rough lines no Japanese car ever had. No hate, just saying.
Speaking of dragstrips, these cars are popular among street racers who go crazy with engine tuning and turn regular Camaros into import eating monsters.
Really not much to be said about this one. More-less everyone knows how dope it is.

For the price on an AE86

You could buy a C10 truck

The AE86 got famous over a cartoon.
I honestly don’t know what’s so special that people see in these cars.
Nothing special, just another ecobox.
Powered by a 1.6 I4.
Then again, cartoons (or anime, as you call it), made it a star.
And the overused panda liverie isn’t my favorite thing either.
And all the tofu jokes make me cringe a bit.
Overused, overused, overused.
Sorry Takumi, but I don’t like your car.
It’s just a Tofu delivery vehicle.

And then there are the Americans and their C10.
Hellatruck. Can carry a bunch of redneck hotties in the back.
Stuffed with horsepower and torque.
The basic definition of Murica.
Can double as a workhorse.
Apple transporter by day, racecar by night.
Looks badass as a rat rod-beater, making the perfect sleeper.
You even get to choose between RWD and AWD.
Drag or rally hehe.
And just like any motoring slice of Murica, it’s equiped by a V8.
Would kick Takumi’s ass on the quarter mile. Haha.

So that would be it for today.
Again, I’d like to say that I don’t hate the Jap cars I mentioned up there, just think some American cars are a bit better.
Anyways, make sure to drop a comment on what is your favorite American car / overrated Jap car.
Depending on everything, I might make a part 2. Maybe.
Anyways, I gotta go now and sleep.
Thank god it’s Friday haha.

Cheers, fellas!

The fanboyism as you refer to it is because the cars are rare and unusual from them american ones. It comes a lot from america because there are a lot of people there but also because the cars weren’t sold there. I’m sure that if you go in Japan they are really excited when seeing American cars but seeing a supra is like seeing a camaro here. It’s just the rareness of the cars themselves and the history of them that make them so legendary and liked. It’s true on the price though, since importing a japanese car is so expensive but a lot of people dream of owning one and the lifestyle of japanese people. Interesting post anyways. Have a good day!

Cody's Car Conundrum

Man….. no Mopars??

XD, either way this is a good list! There are tons of alternatives to the common choice. I’d like to add though that for the price of that 40K Supra you could get a Gen 1-3 Viper for the same price. With that, have a random gif :)

On a side note, I saw my first mk4 supra today. Driving through Georgia, sitting in a mechanic’s parking lot. Probably his project car. :)

Sarove (Crown Vic)

Crown Vic. Nuff said.

Most of these are hardly comparable. A Crown Vic to an MX-5? An 86 to a C10? And I don’t even think S15s are properly legal in the States.

And besides, what’s wrong with liking foreign? Maybe people like things made outside of their resident country more. Being a PA resident, I live around and see a fair amount of ‘Murica, yet still prefer JDM. If that’s the case, we might as well run a “drop Asian, European, and Hispanic food campaign” and stick to American food.

You are missing the point like a blind guy playing darts.

There’s nothing wrong about liking foreign.
I just wanted to prove that for xxxx amount of money you could get something domestic, much better (imo) than the jap stuff.

And yes, they are comparable due to their prices.
It’s better to give 2k for a full sized car than a rusty old roadster.

Well maybe if you Japanese fanboys would stop going around and hailing JDM is king and any car from a different country is inferior when compared to JDM you won’t have to whine about a post that doesn’t say JDM is the best and only the best
