Overview: The Lamborghini Gallardo
The Lamborghini Gallardo is one of Lamborghini’s most iconic cars, along with the Murciélargo and the renowned Aventador. The Lamborghini Gallardo, being the Raging Bull’s best selling production car, made roughly 14,022 sales during the years 2003 - 2013. Production of the Gallardo ran from 2003 - 2013 with model years ranging from 2004-2014. The first generation Gallardo came equipped with a 5-litre V10 engine, hitting speeds of 100 km/h in an astonishing 3.4 seconds, making the top speed of the Gallardo reach 325 km/h!
The Gallardo presented itself with two transmission options. First being the H-Box 6-speed manual transmission and the second being the, “E” gear (advanced 6 speed semi-automatic robotised manual, electro-hydraulically controlled). In short, Lamborghini’s “E” gear basically allows the driver to make shifts faster than they could with the original manual transmission. Is the enhanced joy with a performance “E” gear worth the extra cash? Up to you. Many people state that the “E” gear feels faster, while others say they prefer the increased rarity of a manual Gallardo.
Well into 2005, Lamborghini decided to step the Gallardo up a notch adding a new coupe update. The 2006 model Gallardo (released in late 2005) now struck more presence with an updated exhaust system, bringing a whole lot more of a sporty feel to the driver. The engine was fitted with an extra 15kW (20 hp), nudging the maximum up to 382kW (513 hp). The Gallardo’s most noticeable improvement was the lowering of the gearing, gaining focus on the 1st to the 5th gear. With the Gallardo receiving all these adjustments, the handling increased allowing more responsive turning, and the car overall sounded more intense and a whole lot more obnoxious, and most importantly, the refinements to the gears made the Gallardo even faster, because… why not?
