Best mods to do to a Miata

As an owner of a nb Miata I have done a few mods that I have found to really improve the car

  1. Exhaust: putting on an exhaust system will really make the car sound and feel a lot better. There is nothing better thank hearing the Miata breath

  2. Roll bar: do not buy a style bar. Style bars provide no safety and look stupid. A roll bar will really stiffen the body and provide a lot better protection. An average roll bar cost about $500 and good brands are hard dog, boss frog, and a few other really good smaller companies

  3. Intake: although you will see almost no gains from a intake they look good and a pod filter gives a nice throaty sound at low rpms. I have a ARC super magic intake chamber and it is really nice although they run around $250-$400 dollars

4.Header: a header for any Miata will really improve performance and really free up exhaust flow. The racing beat header is probably the most popular and one of the best bang for your buck upgrades

  1. Sway bars: the stock sway bars are so soft and a good set of sway bars will really improve body roll and improve handling

Other good modifications include
Exhintake cam swap
Racing seat I have an ultrashield seat
Lsd swap If you don’t have one
Coilovers
Turbo lol cuz more power
Square top manifold
New wheels and tires

Please let me know if you think this list is good and what mods you have done

While 2jz is probably one of the coolest swaps I’ve heard it’s a major pain and a v8 swap is so much easier

Dont forget that you’ll need some stiffer motor mounts or a torque damper to protect your header!

I’m curious how most of those miata “roll” bars actually connect to the body. Does yours run to the rear subframes or strut towers or does it bolt into sheet metal?

I’ve seen a number of wrecks where a four point punched right through the floor instead of holding up the roof because it wasn’t installed well or wasn’t designed well. Most of a uni-body car is poor suited to holding the roof up

Mine bolts in right to the sheet metal but comes with very thick backing plates. I’m curious to were you saw these photos. I’ve seen a number of miatas crash and the roll bar was still intact

I’d rather supercharge it. Turbo ruins the powerband imo

I’d keep it N/A. Lighter pistons, piston rods etc. It will be light, rev very high and have decent power.

Better shocks are a good mod in the long run (coilovers vary in price depending on country standards and other stuff) Just found a full set for 800$ not sure if it is a good deal because I just clicked on a random site that had racing coilovers and drift coilovers cost 1100$

I have heard mixed review on about all coilovers I think the best place to get a set would be flyin Miata they have great support and tons of knowledge on Miata stuff even if they don’t sell it there coilovers run for about $800
