Best mods to do to a Miata

As an owner of a nb Miata I have done a few mods that I have found to really improve the car

  1. Exhaust: putting on an exhaust system will really make the car sound and feel a lot better. There is nothing better thank hearing the Miata breath

  2. Roll bar: do not buy a style bar. Style bars provide no safety and look stupid. A roll bar will really stiffen the body and provide a lot better protection. An average roll bar cost about $500 and good brands are hard dog, boss frog, and a few other really good smaller companies

  3. Intake: although you will see almost no gains from a intake they look good and a pod filter gives a nice throaty sound at low rpms. I have a ARC super magic intake chamber and it is really nice although they run around $250-$400 dollars

4.Header: a header for any Miata will really improve performance and really free up exhaust flow. The racing beat header is probably the most popular and one of the best bang for your buck upgrades

  1. Sway bars: the stock sway bars are so soft and a good set of sway bars will really improve body roll and improve handling

Other good modifications include
Exhintake cam swap
Racing seat I have an ultrashield seat
Lsd swap If you don’t have one
Coilovers
Turbo lol cuz more power
Square top manifold
New wheels and tires

Please let me know if you think this list is good and what mods you have done

You forgot THE best mod to do to a miata and road cars in general….. Sport/semi slick Tire (big brand ;) ) at good pressure (!!!) 1.8b for a miata (1t car)

  • Good brake pads (Carbonne Lorraine FTW!!)
  • A good wheel aligment like 949 racing street or Dual duty.

With just that and a good sport driving practice (on track guys!!) you will be able to slap a lot of cars…. but mostly be able to have great plesure with the car, all safe and with confidence.

Faor the other mods…. no it’s not so easy, and all the periferal things you change just add noize and not a lot of performance.
Plus, on A miata, the body roll is not a problem for road holding thanks to it’s double wishbone suspensions.
Better to keep it stock or learn to drive like the miata drives than f*ck it all up by puting “sporty” things on it with absolute no clue on what it really does to the cars, particulary Coilovers or lowering srpings & Sway bars…..

I agree with most of your statements but I mean who doesn’t like to hear their Miata scream. As for sway bars really? Miatas have so much body roll and they really help keep the car.

I don’t live in the uk so I don’t really know the conversions rates but I bought a full exhaust system for my nb from isr performance for $350. If you want a muffler that’s louder I would get a roadster sport, but if you want somethings that’s not too loud I would get a racing beat muffler

Does any version of the NA come with an LSD?
I only know it from the top-version of the NC.

The “style bar” is a bit of a special story in germany.
It’s hard-to-impossibel to get a “proper” rollbar registered, so you’re adviced to claim the proper one is just a style piece since that makes it easier to get it road-legal.
I guess Germany just likes its car-laws complicated.

Hey Bryce, what sway bars are you using? I’m reading that a lot of the aftermarket sway bars aren’t very stiff, so if you want to slide your car you need to shop around. Do you know anything about the Eibach kit? They seem to be the stiffest: https://lowoffset.com/mazda/ultimate-miata-sway-bar-guide/
