What car would you buy as an investment?
I think that nowadays is a pretty good moment to invest in cars, as we’re in the ending of an era (you know, everybody is going turbocharged, manuals are disappearing in high performance cars and the latest supercar is a hybrid. So, it is likely to think that old-school n/a manual cars are going to be highly appreciated in a few years time.
Anyway, I want to know what car would you buy today that will be worth quite an amount of money in the future. This are my bets:
Porsche 911 (997) Carrera GTS:
Packing an awesome 3.8 flat six engine with +400hp that sounded glorious, the GTS is the car to buy of the 997 gen, which has been one of the most celebrated and arguably, the best driving experience the 911 can provide. Of course, leaving aside the GT2 and GT3 that are already skyrocketing in value. Buy one today for 80-100K and expect it to double its value.
BMW E46 M3 :
I do really think that the E46 is the best modern M3. The E92 was heavier than a house and the new M4 isn’t an M3 (lol) and it’s gone turbo. That makes me think that, whenever the new gen M3 or M4 is released, will probably go hybrid and won’t offer a proper manual, so the latest n/a 3.2 liter 6 cyl. manual M3 (which yes, it is the E46) will start to appreciate. Nowadays tho it is still depreciating and you can pick up one for well under 20K.
That said, I’d love to hear your opinions about the topic, what would you choose and why I am wrong (which is likely). Have a good one!
Comments
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 (or any generation)
Or the previous generation Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG with the naturally aspirated V8.
I wouldn’t
Neither would I, as I’m pretty sure that if i bought one of those I’d put on so many miles no one would want to buy ‘em hahaha
All these cars you mentioned won’t be getting appreciated at all imo. Look at their current prices , when they got released they had almost a six digit price and right now they cost less than 10k.
The only cars that are going to appreciate are :
Honda NSX (1st gen)
All Ferraris
Ford GTs
Lexus LFA
Some Aston Martins
Couple of Non Ford American Muscles.
Probably the GTR R32 and R34 .
That’s all. I can’t remember a few .
1M maybe
I’d invest into a Nissan Skyline GT-R32. Imagine the price in 10-20 years.
Toyota Supra, Manual, Twin Turbo. Rolling in cash.
BMW Z8 and Alpina B12 6.0 e31 (5.0 too)
