5 Reasons Your First Car Probably Won't Be Your Dream Car #blogpost

One: Second Cars Exist

More than likely, your first car won’t be your only car you will ever own. Promotions and new jobs can mean more money for a better car than you already have . Also, part of the automotive passion is having something that you’re working towards. If you get your dream car for your first car, then that can kill your ambition. You already have you dream car, so why strive for something greater?

Two: Chances Are High You’ll Stuff Your Car During Your First Few Years On The Road

In the United States, car accidents are the leading cause of death for teenagers. With that in mind, why would you want to drive a car that is rather expensive and hard to control like a newer Mustang GT. A family friend has a philosophy of giving his kids cars that aren’t too valuable “that way when they do crash them they won’t cry about it.”

Three: The Joy Of Owning A Personal Car For The First Time Is Overlooked

It’s understandable the car enthusiasts want to have the perfect first car, but something with that is often overlooked. The sole fact of having a personal car is very liberating. The fact you can go wherever you want whenever you want is very liberating; with that in mind, we should count our lucky stars.

Four: Money

Quite honestly, young people don’t always make the best financial decisions and this can relate to cars. Not everyone can afford to buy and own a brand new BMW coupe. When deciding what your first car should be, both driving fun and running costs should be considered equally. Having a car you can only afford to drive one day a week kind of defeats the purpose of owning a car.

Five: Parents

A sad but true fact for most of us, what we get for a first car is heavily influenced by our parents. This can mean that obviously fast and flashy sports cars are out of the question due to high insurance and gas costs plus they think you’ll be safer driving a Toyota Corolla instead.

I’m eventually getting a better car for myself and in the meantime I’m perfectly fine with my Honda.

Agreed. I have been happy with my poor econobox. It gives me lots of joy and I don’t have to be worried too much when driving…and making mistakes.

Mazda Fanatic

I really wanted a Mazda RX8 as my first car. I spent a little more than a year researching every aspect of the car. I ended up getting a 2006 Shinka model. It has been a great first car. I’ve never had any problems with it during the past 3 years that I’ve owned it. I only use it in the summer though. It gets put away during the winter.

Mod list as of winter 2017:

  • Custom muffler delete
    -K&N cold air intake
    -Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R tires
    -RTX mags (F: 18x8.5 +35, R: 18x9.5 +40)
    -RX8 R3 Recaro seats
    -Oem replica front lip
    -Carbon fiber lip spoiler

Am I the only one around here that didn’t crash as a teenager? My second car (my truck) I had by the end of HS.
