Is the 2JZ overrated?

I know it’s capable of big hp numbers but the engine first came out on 1991. Considering the fact that the engine is coming on 30 years old… surely a more modern engine with continuously variable valve timing and an alloy block would be better. I get that it’s a cool engine and that it has big aftermarket support but it’s hard for me to fathom the cult following that a simple 3.0 straight six has.

It is overhyped. Because it was in a Supra it’s automatically the most JDM as f*ck engine out there. Apparently nothing else compares.

So the 2jz is not good? You know the 2jz made the supra good the supra did not make the 2jz good.

Mini Madness (Group B squad)(Furrysquad)

eh debatable. as nothing has come out that has eclipsed it, it was cheap and it was very strong. heck look at the LS craze in the US. i just we could have another 2JZ esque craze now

its just the size of the engine means that in countries like the uk, 3L is sort of the largest mass produced size of engine you can get over here 2.5 is high average (discounting landies 4L V8) but its not mass produced anymore.

I think the 2jz is a bit of the same story as the Chevy ls, Honda v-tec and Nissan RB
“Bang for your buck engine with lots of support from the aftermarket”
I won’t say overrated but the people that are into it are keeping the popularity.
This goes with any platform of car/engine, as long there’s a following it will keep the popularity.

And on the subject if the supra made the 2jz or visa versa, I think neither.
Supra is good even without the engine and I know the 2jz without knowing the supra.

The 2jz is great for peak power and is very strong but putting 1300hp out of it more than likely it will be on the lift more than the road. Just a reality :/
