Would you guys say a Toyota Paseo is good as a first car?
I could get it for ~1000 bucks
The reason i consider getting it is because its basicly perfect. I’ts got a 1.5 i4 dohc 16v with 90 hp xD i know that’s…. Nothing but, thats fine for me, i dont need more in my first car. Its gonna be cheap to run, cheap to insure and easy to fix because the car doesn’t seem to be complicated at all. I think im not going to have a lot of money through the next years (cuz of school an stuff) thats why i think that this little 1.5 litre sub-coupe would be ideal. I pöan to buy it next year, my bike is enough for now.
And the one on the picture is a good example! Its just lowered and has a new set of wheels and it looks so awesome! (The pic is from google btw)

Go for it. Can’t go wrong with a Toyota.
I cant believe ive never seen one of these and i know my Jap cars! Its like a 300zx, 100nx, civic all rolled into one! 😊
Yeah right? It looks so freakin’ awesome altought its just as big as a 100nx
Tbh mate for that kind of money its a pretty good looking car and 90bhp isnt alot but it seems that that engine would respond well to tuning 😊
I mean its a 16v so yeah, maybe. But i wouldnt tune the engine anyways, i’d be happy if it runs healthy. It wheights less than a tonne according to wikipedia sooo fun factor is high i guess.
Alot of people would love that for a first car i know i would of
16v dohc 1.5 would be great if you custom mods yourself to save some money 😊
They are light, reliable, cheap to insure, and are basically a tercel with a different body.. they are cheap to fix.. and they are decent on gas.. I mean compared to new cars, they suck.. but they are good none the less..
I average about 34MPG with my 89 corolla.. which has about 95HP..
Where as my wife’s 13 Scion gets about 31MPG and has 168HP so don’t expect miracles in the MPG department.. but yes.. very reliable and stupid easy to repair..
Stay away from the automatics, as they are slow enough to be safety concerns.. Like fear for your life merging onto highways..
They also come with autos? There are no autos being sold where i live, but ok, thanks for the advice if i ever get to find one.
I’d go for it. What you need in a first car it seems to meet. Plus it’s cheap I’d go for it
I actually looked into these car a while ago because I knew nothing about them. they got quite some from the initial reviewers, but that was mainly because it said gt while it really wasn’t ready to earn that badge yet. they reviewed it as a sports car which lets be honest it isn’t and they said the interior felt a bit dated.
but reading through the hate, to me it sounded like a great beginners car. it is reliable, cheap to run, toyota, not (too) slow and the looks aren’t that bad. that the interior is dated and that the initial response to the car wasn’t that good only means that there isn’t a lot of ordinary people looking for and buying these cars. but for a young petrolhead this could be a great starters car, as prices tend to be lower than they should be.
I would buy it as a first car, as I said I can’t really name any downsides other than gt-badge is somewhat weird and the interior might look 1 year older than the car is but who cares. It can looks pretty good and as far as I know is very fun to drive. only two real downsides might be fwd and toyota parts can be more expensive than some other brands
however this last argument is one I don’t really agree with, so a 8 (euro/dollar) part might cost 10 or 12 for a toyota BUT most parts tend to last very long and large failures of engines trannies and other big systems are very uncommon in toyotas. so at the end of the day other brands are just as expensive, maybe even more expensive.
GO FOR IT!
quite some hate from initial reviewers*
Aaaalright! This is exactly what i thought about the car, and it also seems to be the thinking of other CTzens, well parts, expensive or not, i guess its just like you and a few other CTzens say, toyotas seem to be reliable so it won’t be a big problem. Thanks for your advice!
