Did you remember in Gran Turismo #26 : The Dodge VIPER GTS R Concept '00
The description from “Gran Turismo”
The Dodge Viper Street Model underwent a full model change in 2003. However, the base for this new model, which was the Viper R10 Concept, was presented 2 years earlier in 2001. The GTS-R, which had been the RT10’s Concept prototype, was also released one year before that, in 2000.
In other words, this new concept model Viper prototype was preceded by the development of the closed body GTS-R. The GTS-R had proved itself to be a significantly more competent competitor that had previously been expected by people in the world of GT car racing. Daimler-Chrysler Corporation at the time strongly desired to turn this newly developed concept model Viper into the undisputed leader among the top performance race cars of the world.
As for the specifications for the 2000 GTS-R concept car: an 8.0L V10 engine loaded into a closed coupe with the same basic structure as its predecessor. At the time of its release, the engine had a street tuning level, limiting its power to 493 HP.
The name “Viper Conception Coupe” was bestowed upon the GTS-R competition model following its delivery in 2003.
Though it possesses an 8.3 L unit, its maximum output is 552 HP, which was down by 138 HP from the previous 8L, 690 HP version. This comes as a result of it being optimized to meet race regulations, but at the same time, the vehicle’s cornering, aerodynamic, and various other abilities were significantly enhanced. As a matter of fast, its performance is really neither better nor worse than the older version.
Supplement of me
10 years after the release of the concept of what will be the future Dodge Viper RT/10, this Viper Concept released for the next generation Viper whose first production model appears in 2003 (with the famous SRT-10).
So, So to have a word of exterior design (which, personally, I really like despite the design for the competition), It’s designed by a japanese : Osamu Shikado (Now, He has designed for Nissan Motor Co.,Ltd. and Hyundai Design North America. Before, for Chrysler Group LLC where he designed this Viper GTS-R Concept and Toyota). The purpose of this design is to give a more dynamic appearance in the car, “give the body a strong profile (with higher belt line, dramatic side gill, ‘bump-up’ rear fender shape and a more defined side crease” and take inspiration from motor racing.
To say something about the within: It is equipped with the air conditioning, adjustable pedals and a premium sounds system, that’s all !
Mechanically, this is a All Aluminum 8.0 L V10 developing 500 BHP (502 HP) @ 4.000 RPM and a torque of 678 Nm (500 ft-lbs). The whole car (chassis and body) is a One-Piece Carbon Fiber therefore weighs 1.476 kg (3.254 lbs). It’s a 6-Speed Manual and it 0-60 mph reached at around 3.8 seconds. There are aluminum suspensions : The Short & Longs Arms with Coil over Shocks.
And then, we meet again the shape of this concept-car in the 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Competition Coupe that will make 5 years of competitions.
Well, this weight/power ratio is 2.9 kg/hp, the equivalent of a 2004 Mercedes SLR McLaren (626 hp), a 2007 Ferrari 430 Scuderia (510 hp), a 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 (560 hp), or a 2005 Ford Shelby GR-1 Concept (613 hp).
The Dodge Viper GTS-R Concept also appear in Sega GT (2000); Blur (2010); Sega GT Online (2004); Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (2005); Midnight Club II (2003); Race Cars: The Extreme Rally (2006); Asphalt: Urban GT 2 (2005); Sega GT 2002 (2002); Car Town (2010); Test Drive Overdrive: The Brotherhood of Speed (2002) and Destruction Derby Arenas (2004)
