Why I Hate Electric Cars: They Are NOT The Future! #blogpost [WARNING: RANT]
The electric car is something that has been around for a long time. But they have gained popularity in the past few years when a certain few automakers decided that it would be a good idea to sell new ones. Many people will say that the electric car is the future, but trust me, there are actually some legit reasons in this rant why they aren’t.
1. The Automakers/The Environment
The root of the problem is the automakers. Tesla being the main one (I hate Tesla). They make these EVs in an effort to save the environment. In reality, they are just as bad to the environment as fossil fuel cars. For one, they claim that their cars are “zero-emissions”. Think about it, guys, where does electricity come from? Oh yeah, BURNING COAL. As for solar panels and the like? I could make a whole other rant on the effects and inefficiency of those. So “zero-emissions” cars have no IMMEDIATE emissions, but down the line there is pollution occurring. Another reason is how they are made. They are made from metals (which are mined, just like fossil fuels are taken from the ground). They are made in factories, which must be powered by something, right? AND, think about a battery. Batteries like in a Prius are an ecological nightmare; the places they come from, the things they are made from, and how long they will sit decomposing is horrible.
2. The Crowd
Ok, the here’s another reason. The people who are buying these things. Mainly the Teslas. I feel like a Model S P100D is a rich guy’s toy. Why? Because nobody else would buy one. THE two main crowds that will buy these cars are 60+ year old white men (no racism) who want to look cool in front of John and impress their country club buddies, and the other is the rich young Arab guys over in Dubai who are tired of being chauffered around in their “old-school” 2015 Maybach S600s and want to be like the “kool kids”. Seriously, whenever I look at at the driver of a Model S or Model X, it is almost ALWAYS an old white man. And guys, I’m not trying to be racist or anything, I am trying to get a point out there.
So who is going to buy Musk’s new “affordable” car, the Model 3? The idiots who are too young and stupid to understand what they are buying. So now everyone will have a Tesla. [EDIT: Non-petrolheads buying cheap electric cars could mean more gas for us!]
Think about it, who the hell is going to buy a 1000hp minivan? (Faraday future FF 91). The guy who wants to be “new school” so he can “beat a Ferrari in a drag race” and be a sleeper owner. No. More like an overrated, boring electric-minivan-that-happens-to-accelerate-quickly owner.
3. The annoying reoccurring statements about the vehicle
You know what I am talking about. The companies that make these EVs and then talk about the acceleration or the range of their new battery or blah blah blah. Really? The battery gets as far as a thirsty old BMW V8 from the 15 year old M5, and the acceleration is the only thing they talk about because it’s the ONLY THING GOOD ABOUT THE CAR. Speaking of acceleration, let me go on a rant about that. Who in the HELL wants a minivan that accelerates faster than a Turbo S?! Or a boat-like quiet sedan that will accelerate faster than an Aventador SV?! Nobody!! Besides the people who think they will be cool if they upload a generic video of a pigeon-winged ugly white minivan beating a 10-year-old F430 in a drag race for the first few meters! Sure, they accelerate UNNECESSARILY fast, but a Model S will run out of steam before it can hit 140! SLOWER THAN AN OLD MINI COOPER S! Comparing a luxury SUV to a high-performance $200,000 supercar just because it can hit 60 quicker is not a comparison. 2 completely different car made for completely different reasons.
Okay, I’m done FOR NOW. I have other reasons. but you probably don’t want to hear them. But one final thing: I respect Elon Musk as a scientific genius, but he clearly has NO IDEA whatsoever about running a car company.
Comments
I completely agree, well said.
Thanks. Good to see someone with the same views on this, it is a very controversial topic.
I always thought the same thing and tried to explain to other people why electric cars are not that great, but these people never listened to me and thought I was being stupid. You seem to have developed your points a lot better than I could. Great article!
Thanks mate! I just write whatever comes to mind and barely think about how I develop things. I guess I write well about things I know about or am passionate about- car blogs!
Clap clap clap clap Great points. I wish the cluster-eff thar was dieselgate wouldn’t have made bad publicity for diesels. They were making a comeback now all the little eco-craps think they emit as much as a semi.
Everyones entailed to their own opinion so ahh, heres mine: i like electric cars and do think they’re the future. Sure, the emergy we currently get is mostly from fossile fuels and solar pannels havent proggresed enough to gain serious energy. Sure, V8 and V12s aee great but they cant be around forever. Axeing gas cars would just be a big step into slowing down global warming. Le’me pose it this way. Would you rather blast 200 mph in a dystopian waste land or cruise through a beutiful setting at 60?
And by no way am i hating on your post, nor am i trying to. Im not tryimg to offend you ajd sorry if i do m8. But hey. I didnt say this earlier. If Porsche can make a great drive and brake by wire then somebody’s gotta make an electric car shifter, like one that limits topspeed till you shift, like a simulation or maybe even pump engine noise through a speaker… But hey, a guycan dream
Well said
Not trying to argue but I want to bring up one point on fuel efficiency… so my family has a model X which is about 90%. We also have my ford focus rs which is closer to like 20%-30% efficient. Making the tesla… and other electric cars 3-4x more efficient than other cars on the road. So yes they still poplute becuase that energy has to come from somewhere but they are much more efficient in using that energy. Plus I live in Seattle so that means it’s most likely hydro electric power.
Alright, you got me on something I forgot to put in defense of EVs: they are generally more efficient, but in no way are they emissions-free. Might add that to it in the morning
Did you know northern Washington gets most of its power from a hydroelectric dam in BC…
Just wait till you actually drive a Tesla like I did, you’ll change your mind haha
Great post but you are forgetting a few important thing. This technology is still in its infancy, that means batteries are still being developed and lithium ion batteries will be phased out with higher capacity and are less environmentally damaging. And why the hell would I not want a Ferrari-beating minivan? The idea sounds glorious :D
I am of the opinion that both and ICE cars will exist in the future, the latter using algae based fuel or something green and sustainable to go around while electric cars provide us another option to get around
Teslas, that hypercar from some european country, the mission E, the leaf, the twizy….all absolute shiit.
There is a solution… hydrogen cars(not the ones that fuel electic engines) but one that is used like a fuel. Its like running e85 but you still have the braap braap
https://www.carthrottle.com/post/engineering-explained-5-reasons-why-hydrogen-cars-are-stupid/
Too inefficient, look up algae based fuel ;) Much easier to implement in the real world.
but e85 is blend of ethanol and fuel… it is some what renewable cause it’s partly corn juice but it got nothing to do with hydrogen tho
How about the fact that they will start banning normal cars
