Koenigsegg One:1 Chassis #107 Crashes at the Nurburgring.

Today is a sad day. Chassis #107 Koenigsegg One:1 (Carbon Edition) has unfortunately crashed at the Nürburgring today whilst trying to set a lap record. The $3.8 million dollar mega-car, one of only eight ever made, was trying to beat the previous record of a seemingly impossible 6:57.00 set by a Porsche 918 Spyder back in 2013, when the day became a lot more expensive for Koenigsegg Automotive AB than they originally planned…

The Koenigsegg One:1 is powered by a 5.0 litre Twin-Turbocharged V8, producing an astonishing 1360 horsepower and weighing at only 1360kg! Koenigsegg Automotive decided to test the car out on the Nürburgring, as they thought truly that it could set a record. But… driving around one of the world’s most unforgiving tracks with one of the world’s most unforgiving cars isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do!

Witnesses report that the car came around a corner of ‘Green Hell’, and was going very fast when it lost control, skidded for around 200 meters before crashing quite hard into the guard rail and flying over it by around 10 meters. And to make things worse, it caught fire briefly before it was put out. Later investigation suggests that the driver came around the corner and stepped on the brakes, but due to a mechanical failure, the car ended up skidding and not operating in the normal manner, and when a mechanical failure happens on a car with that amount of power, there will be problems, especially when it is travelling the speed it was.

The car seems extremely damaged from the outside, but very luckily, all the car’s safety features reacted in the way they needed to, the airbags deployed, and the cabin was completely fine. Luckily, Koenigsegg has said they will rebuild and recondition the car, so chassis #107 lives on. The last Koenigsegg crash occurred to an Agera R in China back in December last year around Christmas time.

Instead of reading out Koenigsegg Automotive’s statement and reaction to the crash, we will provide you with a link to their official website with the statement made from Koenigsegg CEO, Christian Von Koenigsegg.
