Which engines will take over from the likes of the 2JZ, LS and RB26 as the go-to engine swap?

With increasing reliance on computer/electronically controlled car internals, which modern engines do you think will be the next crop of powertrains sought-out for modifications and engine swaps? Maybe the E60 M5 V10? Even a Ferrari flat-plane crank V8? Would like to know people’s thoughts.

LS for sure. They’re small and lightweight for their displacement, aftermarket is endless and they have great power all through the rev range.

I don’t know for other cars… but for mine, the GO TO performance upgrade is to go from a 1NZ-FE (echo/yaris/Bb engine) to a 2ZZ-GE (corolla XRS/Matrix XRS/ Celica GT-S engine)

that swap cost 4k and to be honest, having the power of a Celica in a Yaris is like transforming your little family turd into a go kart with wide wheels..

The VQ3DETT from the Nissan GTR seems like the one we see today. Like that Nissan Patrol from the Grand Tour episode finale. Other engines potentially could be the Audi/Lamborghini sourced 5.2L V10 whiich saw itself in the Gumball 2016 Batmobile, Ford’s EcoBoost in 2.3L and 3.5L variants and the traditional LS because why not :P

Ford Ecoboost V6? Can be boosted up to 600hp+ in the GT. Or the McLaren M838T engine since it can have parts changed to take it from 570hp to over 700hp.
