Why do drift cars have wide body kits if the point of drifting is to not have grip? Since if you put a wide body kit you can put wider tires on it. And then wider tires mean more grip on most cases.
A wide front end provides better control of a drift but it looks weird with front wide and back slim
They do want grip though. So they can carry a higher speed through their drift. And less weight transfer=more control

It’s all about controlling the weight transfer, losing grip is not a problem with a large bucket of power.

Physics says that grip isnt affected by area of contact. So wider probably last longer, because tire wear is better. And also cars with wider tires look better.
It’s all about grip as contrary as it sounds, the rears like a drag car and the fronts like a time attack car to gain speed and then to get good turn in grip and controllability and the ability to have alot of steering angle. They also have many many unicorns to keep the tires spinning.
